STORM PIPE NOTES
STORM DRAIN (SD) GRAVITY SYSTEM SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED OF THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS AND
AS NOTED ON PLANS:
1. CORRUGATED POLYETHYLENE PIPE (CPEP) AND FITTINGS: SHALL BE DUAL WALL AND COMPLY
WITH WSDOT 9-05.20 REQUIREMENTS.
2. POLYVINYL CHLORIDE PIPE (PVC) AND FITTINGS: SHALL BE SOLID WALL AND COMPLY WITH
WSDOT 9-05.12 REQUIREMENTS.
3. STORM DRAINS SHALL BE INSTALLED PER CITY OF RENTON STD PLAN 220.10 AND STD PLAN
220.20.
4. GRAVITY STORMWATER SYSTEM SHALL BE LOW PRESSURE AIR TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
WSDOT STANDARD SPECIFICATION 7-04.3(1)F. AT THE OWNER'S DISCRETION, PIT DRAINS,
MANHOLES, VAULTS OR OTHER ANCILLARY PIPE SYSTEMS MAY BE HYDROSTATICALLY TESTING
TO THE OWNER'S SATISFACTION (E.G. PLUG PIPES, FILL STRUCTURE TO SET ELEVATION WITH
WATER, AND OBSERVE WATER LEVEL DEVIATION OVER A SET PERIOD OF TIME).
I0:C9_\%IIXLlILl[QI
1. EXCAVATE TO ELEVATIONS, LINES AND GRADES INDICATED TO NOT MORE THAN 1/2-INCH ABOVE
OR BELOW THAT REQUIRED.
2. SLOPE SIDES OF EXCAVATION AS INDICATED OR COMPLY WITH LOCAL CODES AND ORDINANCES
HAVING JURISDICTION, WHICHEVER IS MORE STRINGENT. SHORE AND BRACE WHERE SLOPING IS
NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF SPACE RESTRICTIONS OR STABILITY OF MATERIAL EXCAVATED.
3. STOCKPILE SATISFACTORY EXCAVATED MATERIALS WHERE DIRECTED UNTIL REQUIRED FOR
BACKFILL OR FILL. PLACE, GRADE AND SHAPE STOCKPILES FOR PROPER DRAINAGE. LOCATE AND
RETAIN SOIL MATERIALS AWAY FROM EDGE OF EXCAVATIONS.
4. DISPOSE OF EXCESS SOIL AND UNSUITABLE SOIL MATERIAL OFF -SITE AS DIRECTED.
SUBGRADE PREPARATION NOTES
SUBGRADE BELOW PAVEMENT:
SUBGRADE PREPARATION: ALL SOIL SUBGRADES SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY COMPACTED, THEN
PROOF -ROLLED WITH A LOADED DUMP TRUCK OR HEAVY COMPACTOR. ANY LOCALIZED ZONES OF
YIELDING SUBGRADE DISCLOSED DURING THIS PROOF -ROLLING OPERATION SHOULD BE OVER
EXCAVATED TO A MAXIMUM DEPTH OF 12 INCHES AND REPLACED WITH A SUITABLE STRUCTURAL FILL
MATERIAL. ALL STRUCTURAL FILL SHOULD BE COMPACTED ACCORDING TO THE GEOTECHNICAL
ENGINEERING REPORT RECOMMENDATIONS GIVEN IN THE STRUCTURAL FILL SECTION. SPECIFICALLY,
THE UPPER 2 FEET OF SOILS UNDERLYING PAVEMENT SECTION SHOULD BE COMPACTED TO AT LEAST
95 PERCENT MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY (BASED ON ASTM D-1557), AND ALL SOILS BELOW 2 FEET
SHOULD BE COMPACTED TO AT LEAST 90 PERCENT.
COMPACTION NOTES
1. CONTROL SOIL COMPACTION DURING CONSTRUCTION PROVIDING MINIMUM PERCENTAGE
OF DENSITY SPECIFIED FOR EACH AREA CLASSIFICATION. PERCENTAGES ARE RELATED
9.48 TO MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY AS MEASURED IN CONFORMANCE WITH ASTM D 1557.
2. COMPACT TOP 12-INCHES OF SUBGRADE (24-INCHES UNDER PROPOSED DRIVING
SURFACES) TO 95-PERCENT OF MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY UNDER PAVEMENTS AND
GRAVEL SURFACING.
3. WHERE SUBGRADE OR LAYER OF SOIL MATERIAL MUST BE MOISTURE CONDITIONED
BEFORE COMPACTION, UNIFORMLY APPLY WATER TO SURFACE OF SUBGRADE OR LAYER
OF SOIL MATERIAL TO PREVENT FREE WATER APPEARING ON SURFACE DURING OR
SUBSEQUENT TO COMPACTION OPERATIONS. REMOVE AND REPLACE, OR SCARIFY AND
AIR DRY, SOIL MATERIAL THAT IS TOO WET TO PERMIT COMPACTION TO SPECIFIED
DENSITY. SOIL MATERIAL THAT HAS BEEN REMOVED BECAUSE IT IS TOO WET TO PERMIT
COMPACTION MAY BE STOCKPILED OR SPREAD AND ALLOWED TO DRY. ASSIST DRYING
BY DISKING, HARROWING OR PULVERIZING UNTIL MOISTURE CONTENT IS REDUCED TO
SATISFACTORY VALUE.

1. PROVIDE 12" MINIMUM VERTICAL AND 7' (10' FROM WATER) MINIMUM HORIZONTAL CLEARANCE
(OUTSIDE SURFACES) BETWEEN STORM DRAIN PIPES AND OTHER UTILITY PIPES AND
CONDUITS. FOR VERTICAL SEPARATION SMALLER THAN 12" AT ANY CROSSINGS, ETHOFOAM

2. CONTRACTOR AND/OR SURVEYOR SHALL CALCULATE PIPE SLOPES BASED ON THE INVERT
ELEVATIONS SHOWN ON THE PLANS PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
NOTIFY THE ENGINEER OF ANY DISCREPANCIES PRIOR TO FIELD STAKING AND CONSTRUCTION.
3. CONTRACTOR TO FIELD VERIFY HORIZONTAL LOCATION OF CATCH BASIN STRUCTURES WITH
