NARRATIVE
23-3313
On 03/22/2023 at approximately 1810 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and blocking vehicle
collision JWO the intersection at SW 41st Street and Lind Ave SW, within the City Limits of Renton,
County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, Officers M. Battle and E. Sims had contacted the involved drivers and determined
there were no complaints of injury. Both Officers were able to collect each involved party's
information and involvement leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 stated he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling westbound in
about the 600 block of SW 41st Street JWO Lind Ave SW. The driver of Unit#1 stated he was
intending to turn into the Ikea parking lot and therefore got into the center-turn-lane to yield to traffic
for an upcoming left-turn. The driver of Unit#1 stated he knew he needed to turn across oncoming
traffic to enter the parking lot. The driver of Unit#1 stated that the sun glare was obstructing his view
but had proceeded to turn across. While turning, Unit#1 was met by Unit#2 which was occupying
lane 2 of 2. The driver of Unit#1 stated he was unable to avoid the collision and that both vehicles
collided in the roadway causing significant damage to the passenger side of Unit#1.
The driver of Unit#2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling eastbound in
about the 600 block of SW 41 st Street in lane 2 of 2. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was intending to
continue east. The driver of Unit#2 stated while approaching the intersection of Lind Ave SW, he saw
Unit#1 turn in front of his vehicle. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was unable to avoid the collision
and struck Unit#1 causing significant damage to the front of Unit#2.
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Bentley) was the
predominant factor for the cause of collision due to not granting the right of way during a left-turn
causing a collision. The driver of Unit#1 did not grant the right of way to Unit#2 traveling in the
roadway which had the right of way and was already underway. I cited Bentley in-person for the
above listed violation. For administrative purposes, please disregard the `Kennewick PI NE' listed on
the citation as a cross-referenced roadway. This was supposed to be listed as `Lind Ave SW'.
Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 had to be impounded from the scene due to extensive damage. An
exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
