Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations, is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager. ESNW rep was onsite to observe Redi-Rock wall foundation keyway and backfill and lagging of shoring wall. Redi Rock Wall Observations While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor cutting a wall keyway approximately 6 feet in width into native brown silty sand with gravel. ESNW rep used a ½” steel T-probe to probe the keyway and observed it to be very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for the construction of the proposed wall. ESNW rep observed the contractor placing Redi-Rock wall blocks along the keyway that has been capped with 5/8th inch minus. Rep observed the contractor had placed a 4” corugated drainage pipe behind the wall and backfilled it with pea gravel. 10XT Miramax Geogrid was placed approximately every two blocks. 5/8th inch clean was placed approximately 2’ behind the wall blocks. Imported gravel barrow was placed in 12” lifts behind the wall and compacted with a diesel sled compactor. ESNW rep took compaction tests and observed adequate compaction of at least 95% of the modified proctor at the tested locations. Please see attached site plan illustrating wall construction area, as well as table below. Lagging Observation ESNW rep observed the contractor install timber lagging. The contractor excavated an approximate 4-5’ lift that was observed to be stable at the time of observation. The contractor placed 4”x12” tempered timber in the soldier pile bays. The lagging was secured to the soldier piles via welded nails to the pile.
