Presentation
Connie Reckord (MR) presented an approximately
20-minute long PowerPoint show covering the following
topics:
• Project Introduction
− Overview
− Accomplishments since the last plan
− Project schedule & public outreach
• Key Considerations
− Changes in Renton development
− Regional trail connections
− Identifying challenges
− New strategies (Level of Traffic Stress Approach)
− Bicycle Facility Types
Workshop and Discussion
Participants were invited to review and provide input on
a number of blank maps representing different parts of
the city. A full set of maps, the Draft Goals and Objec-
tives, Level of Traffic Stress maps, and non-motorized
facility types were arranged along the back of the room.
Two tables with maps and markers were also available
for attendees to provide input.
Participants made comments on most of the city maps,
asked questions of the city staff and consultant team,
and engaged in discussion with each other. Most of the
questions and comments pertained to bicycling, some
were about walking trails, and a few were ADA accessi-
bility comments. There was no public input provided on
the Draft Goals and Objectives or equestrian use.

Complete (the proposed) Sam Chastain (trail) segment.
City Center 1 North Renton, Lake
Washington
Make this happen! (the Sam Chastain trail segment)
City Center 1 North Renton, Houser
Way
Houser Way through Kenworth is private, gated.
City Center 1 North Renton Possible funding for non-motorized improvements from WSDOT if I-405 is widened.
City Center 1 North Renton Houser Way is a good potential trail route from Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park to
the Cedar River Trail. Houser Way to Sunset Boulevard has low traffic volume and parking
along the east side of the road is not in high demand. (ERC Feasibility Study Alternative 3a)
City Center 1 North Renton Fix the intersections of N 8th and N 6th Streets at Logan Ave N
City Center 1 North Renton, Cedar
River Trail
Create direct ADA access from Renton Stadium to the Cedar River Trail was eliminated.
Bring it back.
City Center 1 Valley/City Center “I like this route (preferred Lake to Sound Trail route along BNSF ROW) if possible”
City Center 1 Valley/City Center “Need road diet (7th Street) in 2017”
City Center 1 Highlands Aberdeen is a good route to Kennydale
City Center 1 Highlands Possible route from N Renton to Highlands neighborhood: Sunset Blvd to Windsor
City Center 1 Highlands NE 7th Street route up to Highlands - Not a bad grade
City Center 1 Highlands Sunset Boulevard up to Highlands/Kennydale is an OK route (up the hil)
City Center 1 Highlands Proposed greenway along Harrington between Sunset Blvd and Hillcrest Elementary?
City Center 1 Highlands New development at Sunset and Harrington near library?
City Center 2 City-Wide Minimize the # of at-grade crossings for trail alignments
City Center 2 City-Wide Wayfinding important to get through town
City Center 2 North Renton Difficult turns, unclear route (at Houser Way and Lake Washington Blvd)
City Center 2 North Renton Preferred alignment of ERC (along Houser Way)
Map Location Comment
City Center 2 West Hill/City Center Need separated bike facility (Rainier Avenue near city limits); very dangerous, friend has
serious accident here while bicycling
Community Input by Mapped Planning Area
City Center 2 City Center Desire line (from Logan Ave N along N 6th Street to Cedar River Trail)
City Center 2 City Center, Airport Way Don’t build (a facility) on Aiport (Way), continue to use Perimiter (Road)
City Center 2 City Center, Renton High
School
Cut-through (N-S through school campus)
City Center 2 City Center, Cedar River
Trail, Riverside Drive
What about limiting parking certain hours to make road more available for mixed use?
City Center 2 City-Wide “Shared Roadway” (designation in legend) is OK on flat and downhill, not steep (uphill)
City Center 3 Kennydale, Lake Wash-
ington Blvd
Bike lanes (on Lake Washingotn Blvd) need to be wider; car lanes are too wide for 25 MPH
speed limit; narrow the lanes and slow the cars)
City Center 3 North Renton, Logan
Avenue N
Do not force cyclists to switch back and forth between bike lane and weird sidewalk/trail
thing
City Center 3 North Renton, Logan Ave
N between N 8th and N
6th Streets
Bicycles merge with traffic (Logan Ave N btwn N 8th and N 6th Streets)? Dangerous. (sad
face)
City Center 3 North Renton, Logan Ave
N to Park Ave N
Does not favor lots of mode shifting (current configuration of Logan Ave N)
Renton North 1 North Renton, Lake
Washington
Complete Sam Chastain Trail
Renton North 1 North Renton, Lake
Washington
DNR Property (at Sam Chastain Trail and Boeing)
Renton North 1 North Renton, Park Ave
N/Lake Washington Blvd
Really tenuous intersection
Renton North 1 North Renton, park Ave N Consider Park Ave N (as a route)
Renton North 1 North Renton Intersections of N 8th and N 6th Streets at Logan Ave N (question marks)
Renton North 1 City Center/Highlands Need way to cross road (I-405?) on bike safely; need way to get to City Center and Coulon
Park (from Highlands)
Renton North 1 City Center Complete Burnett Linear Park to Cedar River; reconfigure parking, BNSF Railroad and S 5th
Street along Burnett
Renton North 1 City Center Burnett as green space with grass, basketball courts, place to kick a soccer ball, etc.
Renton North 1 City Center/Valley Important to use RR ROW for Lake to Sound to Cedar River Trail
Map Location Comment
Renton North 1 City Center Existing lighted path (Lake to Sound Trail between Shattuck and Burnett) can be example
for rest of trail
Renton North 1 Valley Trailhead/parking possible at west end of Lake to Sound Trail/Monster Road crossing? Or
the north end of Naches Avenue?
Renton North 1 City Center/Valley Walking along 7th Street would not be as pleasant as walking along the RR ROW (Lake to
Sound trail alignments)
Renton North 1 City Center Lots of families with bikes (in residential area south of the Civic Core)
Renton North 1 Renton North Houser “Lane” (between Shattuck and Burnett) would be good for the Lake to Sound
alignment
Renton North 1 Renton North Houser Way used to be called “Walla Walla”; changed in 1966, named after Houser, the
city attorney.
Renton North 1 City-Wide Climbing (bike) lanes up hills (sharrows for down hills)
Renton North 2 City Center/Gene Coulon
Memorial Beach Park
Wood bridges at Coulon are uneven/rough for ADA (wheelchair) accessibility
Renton North 2 Kennydale/Highlands Need bridge (May Creek Trail)
Renton North 2 Highlands Development (near 156th Ave SE in Highlands) is not buidling bike lanes (?)
Renton North 2 Highlands/East Plateau Existing easement (near May Creek Park/McAskill)
Renton South Valley Trail here (Lake to Sound trail along 7th Street) is not good - too many delays and conflicts.
Renton South Valley/City Center Prefer Lake to Sound trail along BNSF
Renton South City Center Extend Burnett Linear park
Existing Trails City Center Problem for cyclists on road crossings (along Cedar River Trail between Logan Ave N and
I-405)
Existing Trails Highlands Representative of missed opportunity with road shoulder improvement at Alpine Nursery
Location Comment
General/Senior Center No bike parking at bike meeting?
City Center Make Houser downtown a festival/party street. Once a month on Sundays, then twice, then three a
month, then all year long! (at least half the street)
City-Wide As a bicyclist I prefer off road trails to bike lanes. One important metric when deciding between any
two routes is to determine how many crossings each route would make. Every crossing is an oppor-
tunity for an accident between car and bike. They are also long delays, which tempt bicyclists to run
the crosswalk. Also cars don’t always heed or notice pedestrian lights when they are turning. Please
count the number of street crossings on all proposals. Thanks!
