GENERAL NOTES
AN EROSION CONTROL SYSTEM USING THE MINIMUM BMP'S SHALL BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO
ANY CLEARING OR GRADING. ADDITIONAL EROSION CONTROLS MAY BE REQUIRED BY THE
ENGINEER AS WEATHER AND FIELD CONDITIONS DICTATE.
x LOCATIONS FOR STOCKPILED MATERIAL MUST BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER/PROJECT
MANAGER.
x THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FULL COMPLIANCE WITH THE WASHINGTON
STATE "DROPPING LOAD OR OTHER MATERIALS - COVERING" (RCW 46.61.655.3/4).
SPILL PREVENTION CONTROL & COUNTERMEASURES PLAN
THE SPILL PREVENTION CONTROL & COUNTERMEASURES PLAN WILL CONTAIN A TEMPORARY
EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL PLAN AND WRITTEN CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE DESCRIBING HOW
CONSTRUCTION AND EROSION CONTROL WILL PROGRESS, RESTORATION BY SECTION, AND
PROTECTION OF STOCKPILE AREAS IS REQUIRED. THE CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE WILL BE
REVIEWED WITH THE ENGINEER AT THE PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
ALSO DEVELOP A "SPILL PREVENTION CONTROL AND COUNTERMEASURES" PLAN AND IDENTIFY
PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPLEMENTING THE PLAN IF A SPILL OF A DANGEROUS OR
HAZARDOUS WASTE SHOULD OCCUR.
TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL
EXPOSED SOIL SHALL BE COVERED AT THE END OF THE CONSTRUCTION WEEK AND ALSO AT
THE POSSIBLE THREAT OF RAIN. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL HAVE A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF
MATERIALS FOR PLASTIC COVERING TO PROVIDE EROSION CONTROL FOR THE SITE AND
EMERGENCY PURPOSES.
SEDIMENT TRAPPING
DEWATERING DEVICE, IF NEEDED, SHALL BE DISCHARGED WHERE SEDIMENT, AND/OR OTHER
POLLUTANTS, WILL NOT ENTER THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM. PER DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY
GUIDELINES, WASTEWATER FROM PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE, MASONRY, AND ASPHALT
CONCRETE CUTTING OPERATIONS SHALL NOT BE DISCHARGED TO STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEMS OR
SURFACE WATERS. SEDIMENT AND GRIT CONTAMINATION FROM CUTTING OPERATIONS SHALL BE
PREVENTED FROM ENTERING THE STORM DRAINAGE, SYSTEM OR SURFACE WATERS.
ALL TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION BMP'S SHALL BE INSPECTED
DAILY AND SUBSEQUENTLY MAINTAINED PER THE WASHINGTON STATE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
MANUAL FOR THE PUGET SOUND BASIN AND THE DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS SO THAT THEY
FUNCTION AS INTENDED UNTIL THE SITE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY STABILIZED, AND THE
POTENTIAL FOR ON -SITE EROSION HAS PASSED. AT NO TIME SHALL MORE THAN 0.5 FEET OF
SEDIMENT BE ALLOWED TO ACCUMULATE WITHIN A CATCH BASIN. ALL CATCH BASINS AND
CONVEYANCE LINES SHALL BE CLEANED JUST PRIOR TO FINAL INSPECTION APPROVAL. THE
CLEANING OPERATION SHALL NOT FLUSH SEDIMENT -LADEN WATER INTO THE DOWNSTREAM
SYSTEM.
DUST CONTROL
PREVENTATIVE MEASURES TO MINIMIZE THE WIND TRANSPORT OF SOIL SHALL BE TAKEN WHEN A
TRAFFIC HAZARD MAY BE CREATED, WHEN SEDIMENT TRANSPORTED BY THE WIND IS LIKELY TO
BE DEPOSITED IN DRAINAGE WAYS OR WATER RESOURCES, OR WHEN DIRECTED BY THE
ENGINEER. WHEN USING WATER FOR DUST CONTROL, SPRAY UNTIL SOIL IS WET, BUT RUNOFF IS
NOT INITIATED. PAVED STREETS SHALL BE SWEPT DAILY FOLLOWING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES.
PERMANENT EROSION CONTROL
ALL AREAS DISTURBED BY CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE STABILIZED BY LANDSCAPING AND
REVEGETATION (SEE PLANS).
UNDERGROUND UTILITY LINES
THE PROJECT SHALL BE SEQUENCED SO THAT EXISTING WATER & SEWER SYSTEMS REMAIN
ACTIVE UNTIL THE NEW SYSTEMS ARE IN PLACE AND ACCEPTED BY THE CITY. WHEN
CONSTRUCTING UNDERGROUND UTILITY LINES, NO MORE TRENCH SHALL BE OPENED THAN CAN
BE CLOSED OR COVERED IN A SINGLE DAY. EXCAVATED MATERIAL SHALL BE PLACED ON THE
DOWNHILL SIDE OF THE TRENCH WHERE CONSISTENT WITH THE SAFETY AND SPACE
CONSIDERATIONS. TEMPORARY TRENCH DEWATERING DEVICES SHALL NOT BE DISCHARGED INTO
SURFACE WATERS FOR TO THE STORM DRAIN SYSTEM WITHOUT PRIOR TREATMENT. TRENCHES
SHALL BE CLOSED OR COVERED AT THE END OF EACH DAY UNLESS OTHERWISE ALLOWED BY
THE ENGINEER. FOR UTILITY TRENCHING AND OTHER CLEARING AND GRADING WORK IN STREET
RIGHTS -OF -WAY, EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL BMP'S, PER THE STORMWATER
MANAGEMENT MANUAL FOR THE PUGET SOUND BASIN, AND STANDARD DETAILS SHALL BE USED.
THE BMP'S SHALL BE MAINTAINED DAILY.

NOTES
1. INSERT SHALL BE INSTALLED ON ALL EXISTING CATCH
BASINS PRIOR TO CLEARING AND GRADING ACTIVITY,
AND UPON PLACEMENT OF A NEW CATCH BASIN.
2. SEDIMENT SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE UNIT WHEN IT
BECOMES HALF FULL .
3. SEDIMENT REMOVAL SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED BY
REMOVING THE INSERT, EMPTYING, AND RE-INSERTING
IT INTO THE CATCH BASIN.
4. CATCH BASIN INSERTS SHALL BE USED FOR
TEMPORARY STORMWATER TREATMENT DURING
CONSTRUCTION. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT CATCH
BASIN INSERTS WEEKLY AND PROVIDE MAINTENANCE AS
NEEDED.
5. CATCH BASIN INSERTS DO NOT MEET SPILL
CONTAINMENT REQUIREMENTS AND CANNOT BE USED
AS SUCH. METHODS OF POTENTIAL SPILL -
CONTAINMENT SHALL BE ADDRESSED IN A SPILL
PREVENTION CONTROL AND COUNTERMEASURES PLAN.
6. THE "TEMPORARY EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
PLAN" AND THE "SPILL PREVENTION CONTROL AND
COUNTERMEASURES PLAN" IS TO BE PREPARED BY THE
CONTRACTOR PER THE SPECIAL PROVISIONS,
