GENERAL NOTES
1. ALL WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF
THE CITY OF RENTON PLANNING/BUILDING/PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND THE LATEST EDITION OF THE
WSDOT/APWA STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS, AS APPROVED AND MODIFIED BY THE CITY OF RENTON IN THE
RENTON STANDARD PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS. A SET OF APPROVED PLANS SHALL BE KEPT ON SITE AT ALL
TIMES DURING CONSTRUCTION.
2. ALL LOCATIONS OF EXISTING UTILITIES SHOWN ARE APPROXIMATE AND IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S
RESPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY THE TRUE AND CORRECT LOCATION SO AS TO AVOID DAMAGE AND DISTURBANCE. FOR
UTILITY LOCATES CALL 48-HOUR LOCATORS 800-424-5555.
3. A PRE -CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION. A MINIMUM OF FIVE (5)
WORKING DAYS NOTICE IS REQUIRED FOR SCHEDULING.
4. TWENTY-FOUR (24) HOURS NOTICE WILL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO STARTING NEW CONSTRUCTION. IT SHALL BE
THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO SECURE ALL NECESSARY PERMITS PRIOR TO STARTING CONSTRUCTION.
5. A COPY OF THESE APPROVED PLANS MUST BE ON THE JOB SITE WHENEVER CONSTRUCTION IS IN PROGRESS.
6. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO OBTAIN NECESSARY PERMITS, CONSTRUCTION
EASEMENTS AND RELEASES.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE OWNER AND ENGINEER IN THE EVENT OF DISCOVERY OF POOR SOILS,
STANDING GROUND WATER OR DISCREPANCIES FROM THE PLANS IN GRADES, LOCATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION OF
UTILITIES, STRUCTURES, AND OTHER EXISTING CONDITIONS.
8. ASPHALT AND CONCRETE STREET PAVING SHALL BE SAWCUT TO A MINIMUM DEPTH OF TWO (2) INCHES. ALL
SURFACE CONCRETE, PAVEMENT, SIDEWALKS, CURB, GUTTERS, AND DRIVEWAY APPROACHES SHALL BE SAWCUT TO
A MINIMUM DEPTH OF TWO (2) INCHES OR REMOVED TO AN EXISTING EXPANSION JOINT.
3. PLANS APPROVED BY THE CITY OF RENTON, PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT SHALL TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER ALL
OTHER PLANS.
DRAINAGE NOTES
1. THE SURFACE WATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO THE APPROVED PLANS, WHICH
ARE ON FILE IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. ANY DEVIATION FROM THE APPROVED PLANS WILL REQUIRE
WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE CITY OF RENTON PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, SURFACE AND WATER UTILITY

2. A STORM DRAIN PIPE SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
A) PLAIN CONCRETE PIPE CONFORMING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF AASHTO M 86, CLASS 2.
B) REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE CONFORMING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF AASHTO M 170.
C) PVC PIPE SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM D 3034-73 SDR 35 FOR 4' THROUGH 15" DIAMETER PVC PIPE, AND
SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM F 679 FOR 18" THROUGH 27" DIAMETER PVC PIPE, WITH JOINTS AND GASKETS
CONFORMING TO ASTM D 3212 AND ASTM F 477.
D) DUCTILE IRON PIPE CONFORMING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF ANSI A21 .51, AND AWWA C 151, THICKNESS
CLASS AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
E) POLYETHYLENE SMOOTH WALL PIPE PER ADVANCED DRAINAGE SYSTEMS (ADS) N-12 CONSTRUCTED PER THE
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS 7-04.
SANITARY SEWER NOTES
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD VERIFY LOCATION AND ELEVATION OF THE POINT OF CONNECTION PRIOR TO
CONSTRUCTION.
2, THE CONTRACTOR IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MEANS, METHODS AND SEQUENCES OF CONSTRUCTION AND
FOR THE SAFETY OF WORKERS AND OTHERS ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE CITY OF RENTON WITH AN AS -BUILT DRAWING OF THE SANITARY SEWER
SYSTEM, WHICH HAS BEEN STAMPED AND SIGNED BY A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER OR LICENSED
PROFESSIONAL SURVEYOR.
4. SANITARY SEWER PIPE SHALL BE POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC) RUBBER GASKETED ASTM D 3034, SDR 35, OR
DUCTILE IRON CLASS 50.
5. TESTING BY AIR OR WATER EXFILTRATION IS REQUIRED ON ALL SEWERS INCLUDING DRY LINES, AND VACUUM
TESTING IS REQUIRED ON ALL MANHOLES.
6. THE STANDARD VERTICAL SEPARATION FOR WATER LINES IS 3 FEET ABOVE THE SEWER LINE AND 1.5 FEET FOR
ALL OTHER UTILITIES (SEPARATION SHALL BE MEASURED FROM THE OUTER WALL OF THE PIPES). CONCRETE
ENCASEMENT WILL BE ALLOWED FOR WATER MAINS CROSSING AT LESS THAN 3 FEET BUT NO CLOSER THAN 1.5
FEET. FOR OTHER UTILITIES A 0.75 FOOT CLEARANCE WILL BE ALLOWED. IF STANDARD CLEARANCES CANNOT BE
OBTAINED, THEN EITHER THE SANITARY SEWER SHALL BE CONCRETE ENCASED OR CLASS 52 DUCTILE IRON PIPE
SHALL BE USED. IF THE PIPE IS ENCASED, IT SHALL BE ENCASED 10 FEET ON EACH SIDE OF THE CROSSING.
IF CLASS 52 DUCTILE IRON PIPE IS USED FOR THE SEWER NO TRANSITIONING TO OTHER PIPE MATERIALS WILL
BE: ALLOWED BETWEEN MANHOLES.
7. THE MINIMUM HORIZONTAL SEPARATION BETWEEN SEWER AND WATER MAINS SHALL BE 10 FEET. SEPARATION
SHALL BE MEASURED FROM THE OUTER WALL OF THE PIPES.
8. THE MINIMUM LENGTH OF CONCRETE ENCASEMENT SHALL BE 20 LINEAR FEET.
9. IN UNIMPROVED AREAS, A MANHOLE IS TO EXTEND A MINIMUM OF SIX (6) INCHES AND A MAXIMUM OF TWELVE
(12) INCHES ABOVE FINISHED GRADE. IN PAVED AREAS, COVER MUST SLOPE IN ALL DIRECTIONS TO MATCH
PAVING.
WATER NOTES
1. ALL WATERMAINS AND SERVICES SHALL BE PRESSURE TESTED TO A MINIMUM OF 200 PSI OR 150 PSI OVER
OPERATING PRESSURE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS OF THE CITY OF RENTON AND THE
WASHINGTON STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. ALL PRESSURE TESTING SHALL BE DONE IN THE PRESENCE OF A
RE -PRESENTATIVE OF THE CITY OF RENTON. THE QUANTITY OF WATER LOST FROM THE MAIN SHALL NOT EXCEED
THE NUMBER OF GALLONS PER HOUR AS LISTED IN CITY OF RENTON STANDARD PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS. THE
LOSS IN PRESSURE SHALL NOT EXCEED 5 PSI DURING THE 2 HOUR TEST PERIOD.
2. INSTALLATION OF CORPORATE STOPS, WATER SERVICES, LINES AND METERS SHALL NOT BE DONE UNTIL ALL
SERVICE AGREEMENTS, METER APPLICATIONS, CONSTRUCTION PERMITS, AND PAYMENT OF FEES HAVE BEEN MADE
TO THE CITY OF RENTON.
3, ALL CONNECTIONS TO EXISTING MAINS ARE TO BE ACCOMPLISHED BY THE CITY OF RENTON, EXCEPT WET TAPS,
WHICH MAY BE MADE BY APPROVED WET TAP CONTRACTORS WITH PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT. ALL NECESSARY EXCAVATION AND MATERIALS ARE TO BE SUPPLIED BY THE CONTRACTOR AND BE
ON -SITE PRIOR TO CITY NOTIFICATIONS.
4. INSPECTION WELL BE ACCOMPLISHED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CITY OF RENTON. IT SHALL BE THE
CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES TWENTY-FOUR (24) HOURS IN ADVANCE OF
BACKFILLING ALL CONSTRUCTION. THE CONTRACTOR, AS WELL AS THE ENGINEERS, SHALL KEEP AS -BUILT
DRAWINGS.
5. ALL D.I. WATER MAINS ON PLAN SHALL BE CLASS 52.
6. PROVIDE MINIMUM 5' HORIZONTAL SEPARATION BETWEEN WATER MAIN AND ANY STRUCTURE OR TREE.
