Problem Description: Six bents on the trestle over the Cedar River, supporting the Cedar River Trail,
have rotting timber spread footing members and sill plates. There are also two damaged timbers at the east
trestle abutment, and missing cross - bracing at three bents. BergerABAM has performed the 2007 and 2010
Inspection Reports.
Nature of Request: - Provide a stamped structural design for six new concrete footings and steel sill
plates for Bents 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, and two replacement steel beams for the timber abutments. -
Provide a proposal for the installation of the above items. - Provide a proposal for the replacement of the
missing cross - bracing at Bents 7, 11, and 15.
Location: Cedar River Trail, trestle bridge over the Cedar River, approximately 1.2 miles SE of I -405
adjacent to Hwy. 169

Recommended Action: Provide a stamped structural design for new concrete footings and east abutment
to replace rotten timber sills at Bents 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 and east abutment. Replace ten rotten
columns in -kind. Implement repairs per City- approved engineered plan: jack existing bridge support
structure, remove rotted timber foundation members and replace with concrete.
Proposed Schedule: 3rd /4th Week of March'11
