Re: Appointment to the Airport Advisory Committee
Dear Mr. Pepka:
At the regular Council meeting of August 10, 2020,the Renton City Council concurred in the Mayor's
appointment to the Airport Advisory Committee (Washington State Pilots Association-alternate position)
for a term expiring on May 7, 2023. Congratulations on your appointment. Your service on the Committee
is sincerely appreciated and valued by City officials and staff.
Effective July 1, 2014 every member of the governing body or public agency must complete Open Public
Meetings Act training within 90 days of taking the oath of office(if required)or assuming his or her duties
as a public official. Refresher training is required at intervals of no more than four years as long as the
individual is a member of the governing body or public agency(RCW 42.30.205). Washington State
Attorney General Opinion 1986 No. 16 defines"governing body"to include committees appointed by the
governing body. Therefore,the City of Renton is interpreting that this regulation applies to all boards and
commission members.
In order to comply with this regulation we are requesting that all boards and commission members view a
short training video provided by the Attorney General's Office. Please visit http://rentonwa.gov/cityclerk
and select Lesson 1—Open Public Meetings Act. After viewing the video please fill out the attached
Certificate of Training and return the form no later than November 1, 2020.
