RE: Open Public Meetings Act Training
Dear Mr. Boswell:
On December 11, 2014, a letter was sent to all members of City of Renton volunteer boards and
commissions with notification that as of July 1, 2014,the State of Washington Attorney General's
Office requires every member complete the Open Public Meetings Act training within 90 days of
taking the oath of office/appointment, and subsequently participate in refresher training at
intervals of no more than four years. At the conclusion of training, each member is required to
sign a "Certificate of Training" confirming they have completed the training.These certificates are
to be kept on file by the governing body.This is in accordance with RCW 42.30.205.
Our records indicate that you must now take the training again in order to be in compliance with
the four-year interval component of the law.To comply with this regulation, please take a few
minutes to view the short training video (approximately 16 minutes in length), sign the enclosed
form, and return it to our office before June 30,2018, by U.S. mail, by e-mail to

You may find the training video on the Washington State Attorney General's website at
hjjpjZLwww.atg.wa.gov o en overnmenttrainim as x. It is labeled as, "Lesson 3 Open Public
Meetings—RCW 42.30." If you do not have internet access or have questions or difficulty linking
to the video, please contact the City Clerk's office at(425)430-6510 and we can arrange for you
to come to our office to view the video. Please note that if we do not receive your signed
Certificate of Training prior to the June 30,2018 deadline,the City may suspend or terminate
your appointment.
