Dear Jennifer Cisneros,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the project to repair a broken existing water line within a
critical area buffer located at 1701 NE 43rd St. Based on the information provided and our understanding
of the project and its APE, the Duwamish Tribe recommends an inadvertent discovery plan (IDP). This is
an area the Duwamish consider culturally significant and has a high probability to have unknown
archaeological deposits. The project location is within a mile of at least 2 Duwamish placenames and
May Creek. The DAHP WISAARD predictive model indicates that an archaeological survey is highly
advised with a very high risk of encountering cultural resources. In the unlikely event that archaeological
work or monitoring is performed, we would like notification. Cultural and archaeological resources are
non-renewable and are best discovered prior to ground disturbance. The Tribe would also like the
opportunity to be present if or when an archaeologist is on site.
