Dear Clark H. Close,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the project to retrofit residential streets by installing
porous concrete sidewalks, new stormwater pipes and structures, and water quality treatment facilities
located along SE 172nd St from 122nd Ave SE to 127th Ave SE; along 122nd Ave SE, 123rd Ave SE, 124th Ave
SE and 125th Ave SE from SE 172nd St to SE 169th Pl. Based on the information provided and our
understanding of the project and its APE, the Duwamish Tribe recommends an inadvertent discovery
plan (IDP). The DAHP WISAARD predictive model indicates that a survey is contingent upon project
parameters with a moderately low risk for encountering cultural resources.
In addition, the Tribe strongly recommends that only native vegetation be used for any proposed
landscaping to enhance and maintain fish habitat, native avian life and native pollinators as well as to
mitigate seasonal urban flooding.
The Duwamish Tribe wishes you success in the project to help restore water quality to the City and to
Soos Creek, the Green River and the Sound, all culturally important to the Duwamish Tribe and other
tribes within the area.
