Grady Way CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Sarah Ballard Lisa Davis Manami Imaoka Gabriel Jones Celina Kershner Commissioners attending virtually: Ashok Padhi Commissioners absent: Nicole Hill Cassandra Baddeley MOVED BY DAVIS, SECONDED BY JONES TO EXCUSE COMMISSIONERS HILL AND BADDELEY FROM THE JANUARY 9, 2024, REGULAR MEETING. CARRIED ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR Commissioner Kershner nominated Commissioner Hill for Chair Commissioner Imaoka nominated Commissioner Davis for Chair Commissioner Padhi nominated Commissioner Davis for Chair MOVED BY DAVIS, SECONDED BY JONES TO CLOSE NOMINATIONS FOR CHAIRPERSON. CARRIED Vote took place with three votes for each candidate. Commissioners discussed postponing election until next month. Commissioner Davis declined the nomination for Chair. Chair Hill retains Chairmanship. Vice Chair Davis retains Vice Chairmanship. MAYOR COMMENTS Mayor Pavone commended Commissioner Davis for showing leadership by declining Chair nomination, and thanked the Commission for serving and being flexible while establishing the Commission. STAFF COMMENTS DCAO Kristi Rowland updated the Commission on the status of applications received to fill the Commission's vacant position. Acceptance of applications is ongoing. DCAO Rowland discussed a feedback mechanism that will be established to recap meetings and create information flow to the City Council. City Attorney representative Patrice Kent discussed compliance with Open Public Meetings Act and training available through MRSC, as well as Public Records Act compliance and training that will be provided by City Clerk's office. NONE OPPOSED. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Approval of 2024 Equity Commission regular meeting calendar Hannah Miller, ESD Administrative Assistant MOVED BY IMAOKA, SECONDED BY KERSHNER TO AMEND THE 2024 MEETING CALENDAR TO REMOVE THE DECEMBER MEETING. CARRIED MOVED BY DAVIS, SECONDED BY BALLARD TO APPROVE THE AMENDED CALENDAR. CARRIED State Legislative Update Kristi Rowland, DCAO DCAO Rowland followed up on the legislative agenda discussion from the November meeting. There may be legislative items that the Equity Commission could support or oppose via signing a letter of support or giving testimony. MOVED BY IMAOKA, AMENDED BY JONES, SECONDED BY BALLARD THAT THE CHAIR AND/OR VICE CHAIR BE AUTHORIZED TO SIGN ONTO ANY LETTERS AS REQUESTED IN LINE WITH CITY'S LEGISLATIVE AGENDA. CARRIED NEW BUSINESS 2024 Workplan Items Kristi Rowland, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer DCAO Rowland presented proposed items for 2024 workplan. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS Commissioners discussed topics of interest and other items they would be interested in seeing as part of the workplan. COMMITTEE CHAIR COMMENTS Vice Chair Davis commented that she is privileged to serve with this Commission, and thanked everyone for their involvement.
