fence. The proposed fence is located within Residential - 8 zoning with a lot area of 0.19 acres. The proposed
fence would enclose the rear yard and south side yard. The eastern extent of the fence would be the front
facade of the residence and the northern extent of the fence would be the north facade of the house. The
western property line and the sidewalk along NE 11th Street are the other boundaries of the fence. The
proposed fence would have three (3) gates with each one located on the north, south, and east sides of the
fence perimeter. The total length of the proposed fence and gates would be 182.5 feet long.

This letter is regarding the Special Administrative Fence Permit LUA08-076 that was
issued for the fence located at 1101 Tacoma Avenue NE, on November 20, 2008. The
appeal period for the permit ended on December 4, 2008 and no appeals were filed.
As stated in the permit conditions, you are required to:
1) Use more aesthetically pleasing fence materials, such as cedar fencing,
colored vinyl chain link fencing, or galvanized chain link within a cedar
frame for the east and south fence sections. The Planning Division
Project Manager must approve the fence materials prior to building
permit issuance.
2) A landscape strip of three (3') feet must be provided along the south section of
the fence. A landscape plan mllst be provided to the Planning Division Project
Manager, detailing the placement and types of shrubs,plants, and groundcover
prior to building permit issuance.
3) Since there is no driveway cut, the proposed ten (10') foot wide gate on the
south section of fence is too wide. The maximum allowed gate width shall be
four (4) feet in width.
The required landscaping plan must also be submitted for review. All landscaping must
be completed within 180 days of the Division's approval of the landscaping plan.

Advisory Note: The applicant should contact the Call Center, by dialing 800-424-5555, to
determine the location of underground utilities (telephone, streetlights, cable, electric), which
may be located behind the sidewalk.
Conditions of Approval:
1) Use more aesthetically pleasing fence materials, such as cedar fencing, colored vinyl

To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to install a 5-foot chain link fence. The fence would enclose my south side
and back yard. I need a 5-foot fence because I have 2 Australian Shepherds and I know that a 4-
foot fence will not be tall enough. I want the fence to keep my dogs contained in my yard, to keep
them safe, and so the kids and I can play with the dogs while not on a leash. There will be no
landscaping between the sidewalk and the fence. It is on the south side of the house and we do not
now or in the future want to landscape there. The fence will be professionally installed with
galvanized chain link coated in black paint if available at time of installation. Ifblack is not
available it will be standard galvanized chain link. The posts will be standard galvanized posts
with a rounded cap on top. There will be a 6-inch cement strip ( mow strip) under the entire fence.
This will help in mowing, weeding and keeping the lawn looking nice and well kept. It will also
keep the dogs from digging under the fence. I think we have a good plan for a fence that will be
both functional and nice looking.
