NARRATIVE
23-10958
On 09-24-2023 at approximately 0333 hours I was working a Renton Police Department patrol in full
uniform in the city of Renton, King County, Washington. I responded to a motor vehicle collision at the
cross of SW 16th ST and Raymond AVE SW. The caller was a passerby who stated there was a
vehicle vs pole collision with airbag deployment.
Upon arrival I made contact with the driver of the vehicle. The involved units and drivers were
identified as follows:
Unit 1 (WA/CAZ9140) driver Ameer R. Messiah (DOB: 01-31-2006 via WADL).
Unit 2 was a streetlight pole with number: 3576D
Driver Ameer Messiah told me that he was driving Westbound on SW 16th ST, distracted by the
maps on his cellular phone, doing 30-40 mph when he did not see the roundabout at the intersection
of SW 16th St and Raymond AVE SW. He drove over the roundabout, lost control of the vehicle and
collided with the light pole. He told me his leg was in pain. I called the Fire Department who then
called medics for what was believed to be a Femur fracture. Driver Messiah told me he had not been
wearing a seatbelt.
Messiah was transported to Harborview Medical Center by medics.
At the conclusion of my investigation, I determined that driver Messiah had driven dangerously
distracted and failed to wear a seatbelt. I confirmed with driver Messiah that he would receive mail at
the address listed on the Sector citation that I wrote. I informed him that he would be receiving a
citation for driving dangerously distracted via mail.
The Fire Department located a Glock .40 caliber handgun and two magazines in the center console of
the vehicle. The serial number, TYS120, returned clear, no record. I placed the firearm into
safekeeping. The vehicle was impounded by Bankers Towing.
I was not able to get ahold of a parent/guardian for juvenile subject Messiah. I requested that dispatch
send Seattle PD to Messiah's DOL address to notify a parent/guardian of the circumstances and that
he had been transported to Harborview. SPD reported back to me that they notified Messiah's
mother, Mouy Harper at Messiah's DOL address.
