Renton FilmFrenzy Comes to Grand Finale with Free Screening of 23 Films
on Saturday and Free Curvee Awards Gala on Tuesday
The sixth annual Renton FilmFrenzy, a 50-hour filmmaking competition will celebrate its grand finale at
the Renton FilmFrenzy Screening at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, at the Renton Civic Theatre, and
the presentation of the coveted Curvees at the FilmFrenzy Awards Gala at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October
22, at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center. Both events are free and open to the public.
A record-setting 25 filmmaking teams from cities throughout the region entered this year’s Frenzy and
23 teams completed their films and turned them in by the deadline. Teams included nine student
division teams (high school and below) and 16 open division teams. Several teams were participating
in the FilmFrenzy for the first time and producers came from Seattle, Bellevue, Olympia, Milton,
Edmonds, Des Moines and Renton. The filming took place in Renton from 5 p.m. Friday, October 4, to
7 p.m. on Sunday, October 6.
The Renton FilmFrenzy is sponsored by the Renton Community Marketing Campaign, which includes
the Renton Chamber of Commerce, Renton School District, UW Medicine/Valley Medical Center,
Renton Technical College, Renton Visitors Connection and the City of Renton.

Free Renton FilmFrenzy Screening, Saturday, October 19
All 23 submitted films will be shown during the free FilmFrenzy Screening at 7 p.m., Saturday, October
19, at the Renton Civic Theatre, 507 South Third Street. People attending the screening will vote on
their favorite film and the winning filmmaker will receive a special Curvee Award at the Gala.
Curvee Awards Gala, October 22
The top films produced during the competition will be screened during the Curvee Awards Gala at the
Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22. Adam Gehrke, Q13 FOX News
"This Morning," will emcee the Awards Gala.
Celebrating the slogan “Renton, Ahead of the Curve,” special hand-crafted “Curvee” awards will be
presented. In addition, the following cash prizes will be awarded:

Third Prize $150
Student Division
First Prize $250
Second Prize $200

Special Judges Award
The Best Picture winner will also be screened at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) as a part
of the Festival’s week-long program in Renton in 2014.
This year’s judges are Beth Barrett, Director of Programming, Seattle International Film Festival; Tim
Everitt, Owner, Tim Everitt Productions; Ali Mohsenian, Owner, Arc Media Studios;
Adam Sekuler, Program Director, Northwest Film Forum; and, Mitch Shepherd, winner of the 2012 and
2011 Renton FilmFrenzy Best Picture awards and Renton Municipal Arts Commission Member.
Filmmakers had to include three “CurveBalls” in their films.
1. Character: incorporate a character with the name of Gene Coulon.
2. Location: include a scene filmed at the Downtown Renton Piazza, Third Avenue between
Whitman and Burnett Avenues.
3. Prop: use an airplane in the film. The airplane can be a model, photo, toy, actual Boeing plane,
or other plane.
People’s Choice Award
Thanks to the Renton Reporter (www.pnwlocalnews.com/south_king/ren/), members of the public will
have the chance to vote on their favorite Renton FilmFrenzy films. All films entered will be posted on
the Renton Reporter website for viewing. Voting starts on October 23. The winning film will receive a
special “People’s Choice” Curvee award at a November Renton City Council meeting.
