City Awarded State Grant Funds for Two New Projects
Over $1.5 Million Awarded by WSDOT for New Bridge, Culvert Repair
RENTON, WA: The City of Renton has recently been awarded two federal aid grants from the
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for bridge repair/replacement totaling over
$1.5 million.
The first grant totaling $1,222,095 was awarded to the city to replace the NE 31st Street Bridge. The
bridge serves as the only public access to five residences and crosses over May Creek, which is known to
have migrating salmon.
The second grant of $481,474 was awarded to the city for scour repair at the N 27th Street Culvert. The
culvert is part of the Kennydale Creek drainage system. In recent years winter storms have washed out
the culvert support footings. The grant will allow the city to repair past damage to the footings and
protect the footings from damage during future storms.
Both grants will require a city funding match ranging from 10-20%. Both projects are scheduled to be
designed in 2015 and constructed 2016.
