Mayor Law Fills Civil Service Commission Vacancy
Renton, WA: Renton Mayor Denis Law has appointed Renton resident Brent Beden to fill the
position on the Renton Civil Service Commission previously held by Richard Fisher. Mr. Fisher
served on the commission for 14 years until his death on April 10, 2015. The Civil Service
Commission organizes and enforces provisions established in the Revised Code of Washington
(RCW) relating to rules, regulations, and personnel operations within the municipal police and
fire departments. Beden’s term expires December 31, 2018.
“I am pleased to appoint Brent Beden to our Civil Service Commission,” said Mayor Denis Law.
“Brent is a leader with extensive experience in criminal justice and will be a valued contributor
to the commission.”
Currently retired, Beden has over 33 years of experience in the criminal justice system, having
served in the Issaquah Police Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office, retiring at the
rank of Captain. Beden has also served has an instructor for the Washington State Criminal
Justice Training Commission. He received his BA in Criminal Justice from Central Washington
University at Ellensburg, and has been a Renton resident for 15 years.
