Renton Police Dept. continue support of children and local education
For 25 years,
Renton Police have
donated funds
through Renton
Police Youth
Programs
March 29, 2016—
Members of
Renton’s Police
Department (RPD)
are helping to keep
children active and
healthy at school and
in their community
through an $8,000
donation of P.E.
equipment.
RPD members this
week are visiting
with thousands of
elementary second-
grade students at every elementary school in the district to provide them with their own personal ball, hula
hoop or jump rope that the children can keep and take home.
For 25 years, Renton Police have raised money through the Return to Renton Benefit Car Show and used the
funding to help Renton children to lead an active lifestyle. The fundraising has netted nearly $200,000 since
1991 for youth-oriented programs.
In the past, RPD has used the funding for many activity-related items, including providing basketball shoes for
every player on the boys and girls high school varsity basketball teams. This week, Renton Police Officers are
visiting elementary schools to personally present the gifts to students, and share information about health,
fitness and future success.
Renton Police Officer (and School Resource Officer) Clay Deering joins in a game of four square
during recess with students at Maplewood Elementary School.
