Renton delegates met Nishiwaki Mayor Shozo Katayama and Council, and experienced local and historic Nishiwaki attractions such as Kishi House, Dojiyama Cultural Center, many local museums, and even picked strawberries. Delegates also visited the surrounding cities of Himeji and Kyoto. All delegates were responsible for their own travel and personal expenses although some delegates were provided home- stay accommodations. Delegation members included Renton City Council President Randy Corman, as the Official City Representative, Councilmember Carol Ann Witschi, Danny Corman, Brent Witschi, Anya Dahle, Vanessa Dolbee, Carol Guzy, Roberta Logue, Chris Johnson, Barbara MacOnie, Robert MacOnie, Barbara Reed, Dave Reed, Lance Richert, Mackenzie Richert, Mark Richert, Roger Richert, Rosemary Richert, Ted Rodriguez, Carmen Unti and Seong Unti. The Renton Sister Cities Association (RSCA) is a nonprofit organization meant to enhance citizen understanding and appreciation for other cultures and promote international goodwill. The sister city relationship with Nishiwaki began in 1969 when an alliance was forged by the Renton Lions Club and other local civic organizations. Renton-Nishiwaki Sister City programming is coordinated with committee volunteers and supported by the City of Renton. A special presentation will be made to Renton City Council on Monday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m., recapping the visit and highlighting delegation activities during the week-long visit.
