City of Renton Names New Administrative Services Administrator
Renton, WA: Mayor Denis Law has appointed Jan Hawn as the Administrative Services
Administrator for the City of Renton. Ms. Hawn has taken over from Iwen Wang, who retired on
August 1.
“We are very pleased to have Jan joining our staff,” said Mayor Denis Law. “Her strong
background and experience in municipal finance, along with her proven ability as a leader in the
public sector, will be a real asset as we work to achieve our goals in Renton.”
Under the direction of the mayor and the chief administrative officer, Ms. Hawn will serve as a
member of the senior management team. She will lead the Administrative Services
Department, which consists of the Finance, Information Technology (IT), Office of the City Clerk
and Utility Billing divisions. Finance produces the city’s annual operating budget and IT provides
the information technology needs of the city and manages the day-to-day maintenance of the
city’s voice and data networks. The Office of the City Clerk maintains the city’s official records,
the needs of city officials and manages the public process. Utility Billing handles billing for
water, sewer and garbage services.
Ms. Hawn brings over 31 years of experience in the public sector and as a financial
administrator, including the last 13 as the finance director for the City of Bellevue. She also
served as the director of finance and administration for Chesterfield, Missouri and the finance
officer for Bridgeton, Missouri. Ms. Hawn earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science
and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
She has an MBA from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, and is a certified public
financial officer.
“Renton is a great city and is recognized in our region for its leadership and progressive vision,"
said Hawn. “I’m honored to have been selected for this important position and look forward to
being a member of the city team.”
The position was formerly held by Ms. Iwen Wang who retires after eight years with the City of
Renton.
“Iwen has been an invaluable member of our leadership team,” said Mayor Law. “She helped us
maneuver through the most difficult financial period this nation has faced since the Great
Depression, during the same time the city nearly doubled in population. Under her leadership,
the city has streamlined processes and has become more financially efficient. We wish her all
the best as she enters retirement.”
