Grady Way Please note this regular meeting of the Renton Equity Commission is being offered as a hybrid meeting and can be attended in person in the Council Chambers, Renton City Hall, 7th Floor, 1055 South Grady Way, Renton, 98057, or remotely via Zoom. Those providing audience comments will be limited to three (3) minutes each unless an exception is granted by the Commission. Grady Way CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Cassandra Baddeley Lisa Davis Manami Imaoka Gabriel Jones Commissioners attending virtually: Nicole Hill Commissioners absent: Sarah Ballard Celina Kershner Ashok Padhi MOVED BY DAVIS, SECONDED BY IMAOKA TO EXCUSE COMMISSIONERS BALLARD, KERSHNER, AND PADHI FROM THE FEBRUARY 12, 2024, REGULAR MEETING. CARRIED STAFF COMMENTS We will be extending invitations for cultural events and celebrations hosted by the city. The Communications team is currently hiring for an Outreach Coordinator position that will be organizing events. Staff conducted an interview with Chair Hill and Vice Chair Davis for the vacant commission position. AUDIENCE COMMENT Those wishing to address the Equity Commission will be called upon. CARRIED. UNFINISHED BUSINESS State Legislative Update David Foster, Legislative Lobbyist Legislative Lobbyist David Foster provided an update on the current status of the legislative session, including HB 2114 related to rent stabilization, housing policies, legislative budgets, and HB 2368 to coordinate support for refugees and asylum seekers. The Commission may have the opportunity to send a letter in support of these issues. NEW BUSINESS Human Services Grant Process Maryjane Van Cleave, Parks & Recreation Administrator Guy Williams, Human Services Manager Lori Fleming, Human Services Coordinator COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS Commissioner Jones shared excitement for attending different community and cultural events. Commissioner Imaoka shared appreciation for community events and city leaders attending events. Commissioner Imaoka also shared that she recently became a US citizen.
