HomeMy WebLinkAbout031620 National Safe Place WeekArmondoPavoneMayorW’fiercas,SafePlaceisaprogramthatquicklyconnectsrunawayandhomelessyouthages12to17toservices,eitherbyreunitingthemwithfamilyorprovidingemergencyshelter;and‘Wfiereas,sincetheprograminceptionin1983,ithasgrowntoincludenearly140programsnationally,includinginKingCounty.Morethan15millionyouthhavebeeneducatedthroughNationalSafePlaceNetwork’soutreachefforts,familiarizingthemwiththeSafePlacesignandprovidinginformationabouthowtoseekhelpinordertostaysafe;andW’ñereas,morethan359,000youthhavebeenhelpedataSafePlacelocationorreceivedcounselingasaresultofSafePlaceinformationreceivedatschool;andWfiereas,SafePlacemaintainsa24-hourhotline,1-800-422-TEEN,whereyouthcandirectlyconnectwithSafePlacestaffand,withinonehour,aSafePlacecoordinatormeetswiththeyouth,assessesthesituation,andworkswiththeyouthtoplacethematashelterorreunitethemwithparentsorguardians;and‘I4ifiereas,FriendsofYouthandYouthCarehaveworkedinpartnershipsince2012toprovideSafePlaceservicesforyouthincrisisacrossKingCounty;Metrobuses,localbusinesses,andnon-profitorganizationsareamongtheover2,100placesinKingCountythatserveaslocationswhereyouthcanrequestassistanceandwherestaffmembersaretrainedtorespondtoyouthinneedandimmediatelycontactSafePlace;and‘1/j)fiereas,thesuccessofSafePlaceisbasedonpublic/privatecollaborationsandKingCountyneedsincreasednumbersofvolunteersservingasmentorsandpositiveinfluencesonyoungpeople;andWfiereas,increasedawarenesswillencouragemorecommunitiestoestablishSafePlacelocationswhereyouthcanreadilyaccessthehelptheyneed;andWow,tfierefore,I,ArmondoPavone,MayoroftheCityofRenton,doherebyproclaimMarch15-21,2020,tobe%q\rationatsafePtaceWeekintheCityofRenton,andIencourageallmembersofthecommunitytojoinmeinthisspecialobservation.InwitnesswfiereofIhavehereuntosetmyhandandcausedthesealoftheCityofRentontobeaffixedthis16thdayofMarch,2020.AonPavone,MayorCityoenton,WashingtonProctamationRentonCityHaIl,7thFloor1055SouthGradyWay,Renton,WA98057.rentonwa.gov
