Re: City of Renton, Initiative Measure No. 23-02 Petition / Undated Signatures
Dear Jason,
We were contacted on September 18, 2023, by Counsel representing the Raise the Wage
Renton petition proponents (Initiative Measure No. 23-02) regarding the exclusion of undated
signatures and whether there are circumstances where they should be considered valid. King
County Elections prides itself on providing every opportunity to illustrate our commitment to
providing an accurate and equitable service to the voters of King County, and we welcome
opportunities to reconsider ways that will most accurately illustrate a voter’s intent.
After further review of RCW 35.21.005 and the physical petition pages, we will be doing a
further review of the undated lines on physical pages of the petition and determining
inclusion based on the following:
•If the undated line is between invalid dates, it will be considered that this was a
signature collected within a similar timeframe and will be excluded;
•If the undated line is between valid dates, it will be considered that this was a
signature collected within a similar timeframe and will be included; or
•If the undated line is on a page that has no date entry, it will be considered that
the signature was collected in the valid timeframe, and it will be included.
The additional signatures to be included will be determined during the secondary review
process and communicated to the petition parties once reviewed.
