RE: Certification of Terminal Date for Petition – Initiative Measure No. 23-02
Dear Jason Seth:
Effective Monday, September 25, 2023, at 9 a.m., King County Elections will begin the
determination of sufficiency for the City of Renton, Initiative Measure No. 23-02.
Per RCW 35.21.005, the terminal date of September 25, 2023, is certified as the verification
and canvass date for the petition. Any requests to either add additional petition pages or for
petition signers to withdraw their signature must be submitted to the City Clerk of Renton
prior to the terminal date.
As prescribed by Renton Municipal Code, Title 1, Chapter 2, Section 1-2-2, a total of 8,913 valid
signatures of City of Renton registered voters are needed to meet the sufficiency
requirement of the law. The canvassing process will take place at the King County Elections
office in Renton and may be observed by persons representing the advocates and opponents
of the proposed petition. In order to prevent any undue delay or disruption to the
canvassing process, King County Elections will limit the number of observers to a maximum
two (2) observers on each side.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly or my staff.
Sincerely,
Julie Wise
Director of Elections
