Hi Jason,
Thanks for getting us that information – it was very helpful. Because we aren’t sure about how
many petitions the City of Renton has had, we’ve opted not to use a number to identify the
petition and have instead described it based on the language on the petition page. I expect to be
able to email you the Certification of Terminal Date letter tomorrow morning.
Thank you,
Chelseyann

We’ve only had one initiative petition make to the ballot that I’m aware of, and that was in 2006. I don’t know what
number they gave that one. Our preference is for the Elections to assign it a number as indicated in your email.

Hi Jason,
1
Thanks for looking into this on your end. If the petitioner and the city haven’t assigned a number
or name to the petition, we’ll assign a number based on how many petitions your jurisdiction has
had before.
Do you know the last time Renton had a petition (if ever) and, if so, the petition’s number?
If not, I’ve gotten approval not to refer to the petition with a number in the letter certifying the
terminal date.
Thank you,
Chelseyann

Since the petitioner did not include a number we did not have one pre-assigned, and we are now wondering if we have
the authority to add a number after the fact.
