PLANS • EXPERT TESTIMONY Member of International Society of Arboriculture and Society of American Foresters MEMO TO: Alex Morganroth Senior Planner City of Renton FROM: Washington Forestry Consultants DATE: November 15, 2023 RE: New Life Church Tree Replacement Calculations Mr. Morganroth: We have completed the City of Renton Tree Retention and Credit Worksheet for the New Life Church project. All reasonable efforts have been taken to preserve trees utilizing the highest priority possible per Renton Municipal Code. The project is planning to remove three trees in the existing parking lot and five trees along the Maple Valley Hwy frontage to construct the proposed project. All remaining trees on the site will be preserved. The subject parcel is 55.14-acres in size with 34.46-acres preserved in critical areas. Most of the remaining 20.68-arces has been developed with the existing church buildings, parking lots, and open fields. Small parts of non-critical acreage have been preserved as forested areas. A tally of trees was completed in the developed portion of the site and twelve variable area plots were installed on a systematic grid in the critical areas to determine the size and total number of trees on the parcel. The plot locations are marked in the field with orange flagging. Data from the plots were entered into SuperAce®, a forest inventory software program that projected the total number of significant trees in those stands. See Attachment 1 for a map of the site showing critical areas and proposed tree retention. Page 2 The calculated minimum density for the site is 620 tree credits and 114 significant trees. The current site plan retains 371 significant trees on the site totaling 2,211 tree credits. This exceeds the minimum density by 257 trees and 1,591 tree credits. No tree replacement is required. Please give us a call if you have any questions. There are special circumstances related to the size, shape, topography, location, or surroundings of the subject property; or b. The strict application of the code would prevent reasonable use of property; or c. The strict application of the code would prevent compliance with minimum density requirements of the zone; or d. The project is a short plat with four (4) or fewer lots. Please attach a written justification demonstrating compliance with the requirements and criteria as descripted above. TREE REPLACEMENT QUANTITY Tree replacement quantity is determined based on the credit value of the trees proposed for removal. Larger, higher priority trees shall be used for calculation of tree replacement. Identify the quantity of each tree requested to be removed in lieu of 30% retention, based on tree size. List the identification number of each tree, as indicated in the arborist report.
