EE59092 CASE# 24-1955 OF COLLISION 02/22/24 15:07 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 24-1955 On 02/22/2024 at approximately 1509 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking hit-and run vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of SW Grady Way and Oakesdale Ave SW, within the city limits of Renton, County of King, Washington. While en route, Dispatch advised that a subject from one of the involved vehicles had fled on foot into the wooded area just northwest of the collision location. Upon my arrival, 1 noticed both of the involved vehicles still blocking the above-mentioned intersection. Officer E. Sims arrived on scene prior to me. Officer Sims and I contacted the involved party who remained at the scene and wished to report a hit-and-run incident. The occupants of Unit #2 declined injury. The driver of Unit#2 stated that prior to the collision, he and his adult passenger were traveling northbound on Oakesdale Ave SW and approaching the controlled intersection of SW Grady Way in lane 2 of 3. The driver of Unit#2 stated that he had a green light and therefore proceeded to enter the intersection with the intent to continue north. As Unit#2 entered the intersection, Unit#2 stated that his vehicle made contact with Unit#1 which had entered the intersection from the east while it was traveling on SW Grady Way in the westbound lanes. The driver of Unit#2 stated that following impact with his vehicle, Unit#1 was then seen fleeing on foot into the wooded area just northwest of the intersection. Unit#2 suffered significant damage to the front of their vehicle which had to be impounded from the scene. A witness who remained at the scene, identified as MAZA, ISABELLA E (DOB 12/28/1995), described the driver of Unit#1 as a white male, in his mid-30's, medium build with medium-length hair, wearing a yellow hi-visibility shirt and tan pants. A second witness who had contacted Officer Sims, identifying himself as Chris Stark, stated that he had dash camera (dashcam) footage of the incident. Stark later uploaded the dashcam footage to RPD's Axon Evidence via a citizen request link I had sent to him. I later reviewed the footage which revealed that the traffic light for westbound travel on SW Grady Way at the intersection of Oakesdale Ave SW had been displaying a steady red light for 20-seconds before Unit#1 entered the intersection against signal, ultimately colliding with Unit#2. Unit#1 committed one (1) count of Hit-and-Run Attended by being involved in an accident with another vehicle, which is attended, and failing to stop and remain at the scene until fulfilling all statutory duties (provide name, address, insurance company, policy, vehicle license, exhibit driver's license and render reasonable assistance to any person injured). An exchange of information was provided to the driver of Unit#2. Unit#1 was impounded due to blocking the roadway and having suffered extensive damage. On 02/26/2024 at 1237 hours, I was dispatched to a follow-up by phone request involving the registered owner of Unit#1, identified as Lorena Bautista-Martinez. Per Language Line Solutions for Spanish, Bautista-Martinez stated that her Mazda 3, registered to her, was taken without permission by her partner of seven years. Bautista-Martinez stated that her partner, who she identified as "Amauris Francisco (DOB 02/19/1995)" was the alleged driver during the incident. Bautista-Martinez stated that Amauris and her had gotten into a fight and that he had taken the car without permission. Bautista-Martinez stated that Amauris had called her just moments after the collision because he needed assistance with the insurance claim but that Bautista-Martinez has otherwise had zero PAGE 3 OF 5 REPORT NO. Bautista-Martinez did provide insurance information of Geico. Policy #6121389388. The involved parties stated they would not be able to identify the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle.
