SUBJECT:Appointment to the Human Services Advisory Committee
There are three vacant seats on the Human Services Advisory Committee which includes a
Youth member position.Youth seat #3,seat #10 and seat #11,each seat expires 12/31/20.
We are recommending that Catherine Dang fill the youth position,Staci Dixon and Joe Scovel
be appointed to the two other vacant seats on the Advisory Committee.A current roster is
attached.
Youth —Catherine Dang is a sophomore at Renton HS,she is well versed in using popular
media platforms.Her Vietnamese background has allowed her to have a full understanding
of how to communicate with diverse populations in Renton.She is involved with Running
Start,Key Club and DECA as well as participates in school gymnastics.Catherine has lived in
Renton her entire life,she wants to help Renton stay ahead of the curve.She has hopes of
attending the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business when she graduates high
school in 2020.
Staci Dixon has a strong desire to be involved in the Renton community.Her background in
political science and legal work provides her with the experience to be an asset on the
Human Services Advisory Committee assessing what residents need and which programs
would best serve those needs.Staci is a graduate of Washington State University and has a
Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Gonzaga University School of Law.
Joe Scovel is currently working in a specialized rotation for mental health,drug addiction
and veteran populations as the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Pierce County.Prior to
working as a Prosecutor,Joe worked with immigrants,asylum seekers and laborers.Joe is
invested in creative problem solving,program development and addressing community
needs.He will be an asset to the committee with his knowledge and desire to address
growing safety concerns in Renton.Joe is a graduate of Washington State University,and a
Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Willamette University College of Law.
