Grady Way or via Zoom CALL TO ORDER The Human Services Advisory Committee (HSAC) meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: Joe Scovel, Chair Adair Hasty, Vice Chair Ali Cohen Elizabeth Larson Margarita Villarreal Committee Members Absent: Leslie Anderson Gary Barquet Marjan Didra Valentine Portolano Jessie Friedmann Staff Members Present: Guy Williams, Human Services Manager Lori Fleming, Human Services Coordinator Nina Christian, Administrative Secretary 1 Guest Speakers Present: Luke Connolly, Community Social Worker Sara Hardin, CARES Nurse APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Member Larson, seconded by Vice Chair Hasty. MOTION CARRIED. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of November 21, 2023 Human Services Advisory Committee meeting minutes. Moved by Chair Scovel, seconded by Vice Chair Hasty. MOTION CARRIED. Page 1 of 2 January 16, 2024 Human Services Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes NEW BUSINESS Luke Connolly, Community Social Worker and Sara Hardin, CARES Nurse with Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority provided a presentation on the Fire Department Community Assistance, Referrals and Education Services program, referred to as FD CARES. FD CARES is a fire agency-based community injury and illness prevention program. The team consists of a registered nurse and a social worker that travel the area addressing those facing mental health issues or needing other non-emergency assistance. They also help with navigating the social service network and provide advocacy with insurance and other health care professionals. Guy Williams, Human Services Manager provided a brief update on the most recent Severe Weather Shelter activation at St. Anthony’s Parish Rec Hall. The shelter is operated by REACH and was activated from January 11 – 16, 2024. The maximum capacity was 40, however most nights were above capacity. There were separate areas for men, women, and families. Snacks, warm beverages, mats, and blankets were provided. Lori Fleming, Human Services Coordinator reviewed the 2025-2026 Renton Human Services funding application process. She noted the dates the application opens (March 4, 2024) and the deadline (April 8, 2024). As well as information about Renton’s funding priority need areas and criteria. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 4:25 p.m. The next Human Services Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. via Zoom or in person.
