TEMPORARY EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL NOTES
1. TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE IN PLACE AND APPROVED BY THE
CITY OF RENTON PRIOR TO LAND CLEARING AND ALL OTHER CONSTRUCTION TO ENSURE
THAT SILT-LADEN WATER DOES NOT ENTER THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
2. AS CONSTRUCTI ON PROGRESSES AND SEASONAL CONDITI ONS DI CT ATE, THE TEMPORARY
EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL F ACILI TIES SHALL BE MAINTAINED AND/OR
ALTERED AS REQUIRED TO ENSURE CONTINUING EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL.
3. THE TEMPORARY EROSION SEDI ME NT ATION CONTROL F ACI LI TIES SHOWN ARE I NTENDED TO
BE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. ADDITIONAL FACILITIES SHALL BE INSTALLED AS
NECESSARY AND MAINTAINED BY THE CONTRACTOR FOR THE DURATION OF THE CONTRACT

4. THE IMPLEMENTATION, MAINTENANCE, REPLACEMENT AND ADDITIONS TO THE TEMPORARY
EROSION SEDIMENTATION CONTROL FACILITIES SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
CONTRACTOR. ANY DOWNSTREAM DAMAGE DUE TO THE FAILURE BY THE CONTRACTOR TO
FULFILL THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S LIABILITY.
5. THE CONTRACTOR'S CONSTRUCTION AND EXCAVATION SHALL CONFORM TO THE APPLICABLE
REQUIREMENTS OF THE CITY OF RENTON FOR SEDIMENT CONTROL. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL CONFORM TO ALL CITY, COUNTY, STATE, AND FEDERAL ORDINANCES GOVERNING AIR
POLLUTION CONTROL.
6. THE TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN A SATISFACTORY
CONDITION UNTIL SUCH TIME THAT CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE AND THE OWNERS
REPRESENTATIVE HAS GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO REMOVE THE EROSION CONTROL MEASURES.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PLACE CATCH BASIN FILTERS AT ALL CATCH BASINS WITHIN
THE LIMITS OF WORK, INCLUDING THOSE SCHEDULED FOR DEMOLITION PRIOR TO THEIR
REMOVAL. THERE MAY BE CATCH BASIN INSERTS REQUIRED OUTSIDE OF LIMITS OF WORK
INDICATED. CATCH BASIN INSERTS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH 1/C3.01.
8. NO SEDIMENT SHALL BE TRACKED INTO THE STREET OR ONTO PAVED SURFACES.
SEDIMENT SHALL BE REMOVED FROM TRUCKS AND EQUIPMENT PRIOR TO LEAVING THE
SITE. IF THE ACTION OF THE VEHICLE TRAVELING OVER THE ROCK CONSTRUCTION EXIT
IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO REMOVE THE MAJORITY OF THE SEDIMENT, THEN THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL INSTALL A TIRE WASH FACILITY TO WASH THE TIRES PRIOR TO MOVING DIRECTLY
ONTO A PUBLIC ROAD OR OTHER PAVED AREA. IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF THE
EROSION CONTROL SYSTEM, RESULTING IN SEDIMENT BEING TRACKED ONTO PAVED
SURFACES, STREET SWEEPING SHALL BE EMPLOYED. IF STREET SWEEPING VEHICLES ARE
UTILIZED, THEY SHALL BE OF THE TYPE THAT ACTUALLY REMOVES THE SEDIMENT FROM
THE PAVEMENT.
9. STABILIZE ALL SOILS, INCLUDING STOCKPILES THAT ARE TEMPORARILY EXPOSED. FROM
OCTOBER 1 TO APRIL 30 NO SOILS SHALL REMAIN UNSTABILIZED FOR MORE THAN TWO (2)
DAYS. FROM MAY 1 TO SEPTEMBER 30 NO SOILS SHALL REMAIN UNSTABILIZED FOR MORE
THAN SEVEN (7) DAYS.
10. TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION SLOPES GREATER THAN 2 HORIZONTAL TO 1 VERTICAL AND
GREATER THAN 4 FEET IN HEIGHT SHALL BE COVERED WITH POLYETHYLENE SHEETING IN
ACCORDANCE WITH COR STD PLANS 213.20 AND 213.30.
11. SEDIMENT CATCHMENT AREAS SHALL BE LOCATED AT LOW POINTS IN THE EXCAVATION.
CONTRACTOR SHALL LOCATE SEDIMENT CATCHMENT AREAS AS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN A
SATISFACTORY WORK AREA. DISCHARGE FROM SEDIMENT CATCHMENT AREAS SHALL BE
CONVEYED TO A SEDIMENT TRAP, BAKER TANK, OR APPROVED EQUAL.
12. IF CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER IS DISCHARGED TO STORM DRAINS AND OR LAKE
WASHINGTON, THE CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER DISCHARGED FROM THE SITE SHALL MEET
THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON WATER QUALITY STANDARDS FOR
SURFACE WATERS (CHAPTER 173-201A WASHINGTON ADMINISTRATIVE CODE) FOR
TURBIDITY, pH AND PETROLEUM PRODUCTS. CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER DISCHARGE
TURBIDITY FROM THE SITE SHALL NOT EXCEED 5 NEPHLOMETRIC TURBIDITY UNITS (NTU)
OVER BACKGROUND TURBIDITY WHEN THE BACKGROUND TURBIDITY IS 50 NTU OR LESS, OR
HAVE MORE THAN A 10 PERCENT INCREASE IN TURBIDITY WHEN THE BACKGROUND
TURBIDITY IS MORE THAN 50 NTU. THE pH OF THE CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER
DISCHARGE SHALL BE WITHIN THE RANGE OF 6.5 TO 8.5 WITH A HUMAN-CAUSED
VARIATION WITHIN A RANGE OF LESS THAN 0.2 UNITS. CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER
DISCHARGES SHALL BE PROHIBITED IF THERE IS A VISIBLE SHEEN FROM PETROLEUM
PRODUCTS. A CONSTRUCTION DEWATERING PERMIT IS REQUIRED FROM KING COUNTY
INDUSTRIAL WASTE (IF DISCHARGE IS TO BE MADE TO AN EXISTING SEWER.
13. AT THE CONTRACTOR'S OPTION, ALTERNATE METHODS OF TREATMENT OF CONSTRUCTION
STORMWATER RUNOFF MAY BE PROPOSED FOR USE FOR TEMPORARY SEDIMENTATION. THE
PROPOSED ALTERNATE METHODS MUST MEET THE EFFLUENT QUALITY OUTLINED ABOVE IN
NOTE 12. ANY ALTERNATE PROPOSED METHOD OF TREATMENT SHALL MEET THE
REQUIREMENTS OF THE LATEST STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN PREPARED BY
RETECH. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT THE ALTERNATE METHODS FOR REVIEW AND
APPROVAL PRIOR TO BEGINNING WORK.
14. INTERCEPTOR SWALES SHALL BE LOCATED ABOVE THE TOP OF THE SLOPES AND FILTER
FENCES SHALL BE LOCATED AT OR BELOW THE TOE OF SLOPE, EXCEPT AT OUTFALLS
WHERE FILTER FABRIC FENCE SHALL ALSO BE LOCATED ABOVE THE OUTFALL SLOPES.

1. BEFORE ANY CONSTRUCTlON OR DEVELOPMENT ACTlVlTY OCCURS, A PRE-CONSTRUCTlON
