Hello Jill Ding,
Thank you for contacting the DAHP about this demolition project at 500 Park Ave N and 535 Garden
Ave N, Renton. Due to the fact that this project review only covers demolition above the concrete
slab we have no specific concerns for archaeology at this time. We recommend the project follow a
standard Inadvertent Discovery Plan in case of accidental ground disturbance by heavy equipment.
The DAHP will, however, recommend archaeological work for any future work below slab at this
location. The project is in an area determined to be at very high risk of containing archaeology
according to the DAHP predictive model. Prior to the growth of the City of Renton this project area
was located adjacent to a wetland and freshwater stream according to historic maps. The site likely
contains modern fill material and intact archaeological sites may be located below this fill. We
recommend any future ground disturbing projects at this location go through archaeological review.
If Geotech bores are planned, we recommend they be monitored and interpreted by a professional
archaeologist in order to better advise future project activities.
