EE44299 CASE# 24-507 OF COLLISION 01/15/24 14:23 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 24-507 On 01/15/2024 at approximately 1426 hours, I was dispatched to an unknown-if-injury vehicle into a concrete barrier collision just East of Classic Sports Bar, located in the 2500 block of Maple Valley Highway, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. While en route, Dispatch advised that a vehicle had left the roadway and collided into a concrete barrier lining the south shoulder of the roadway. Initial reports from Dispatch advised that the driver was trapped inside the vehicle with airbag deployment and that a child had been safely extracted from the vehicle. Upon my arrival, I contacted the driver and juvenile passenger of Unit#1 in the back of an ambulance. The driver of Unit#1 was the registered owner and identified via WADL as Bitterman, Brett C (DOB 04/23/1984). The driver of Unit#1 stated that prior to the collision, he was traveling eastbound in the 2500 block of Maple Valley Highway in lane 1 of 2. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he was eating a candy bar and began coughing. The driver of Unit#1 believed he "blacked out" and unintentionally left the roadway by driving up and onto the sidewalk. The driver of Unit#1 said that when he came to and noticed he was headed towards a large drop-off, he steered his vehicle left, ultimately making contact with the concreted barrier. Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) conducted an evaluation of both the driver and juvenile passenger and treated them both at the scene. According to witnesses, Unit#1 was seen driving eastbound prior to the collision. Witnesses believed the driver was distracted based on observed driving movements prior to collision. Witness information has been added to this report. Based on the above statements, I believe the driver of Unit#1 (Bitterman) did not exercise ordinary care while operating a motor vehicle. Even with the significant damages incurred, this collision still had far more potential to cause injury and/or death if the vehicle had collided with a pedestrian in the path of Unit#1. 1 gave Bitterman a verbal warning in-person for his actions. Unit#1 had to be impounded from off the roadway due to extensive damage. The driver and passenger of Unit#1 were relocated to the Starbucks parking lot just down the road. I later met with Bitterman where I provided an exchange of information. I certify (or declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct. Electronically signed by Officer M.
