7-05.3(l) ADjLpSTING MANHOLES AND CATCH BASINS TO GRADE ( —SECTI-)
ADD- IN UNPA)!j STREETS' *%, CATCH BASINS AND LIMILAR STRUCTURES IN AREAS TO BE SURFACED WITH
-& FtOC3( OR GRAVEL SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED TO A POINT APPROXIMATELY EIGHT INCHES BELOW THE:
SUBGRADE AND COVERED WITH A TEMPORARY WOOD COVER. EXISTING MANHOLES SHALL BE CUT OFF AND
COVERED IN A SIMILAR MANNER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CAREFULLY REFERENCE EACH NnNMDLE 50 THAT
THEY 04AY BE EASILY FOUND UPON COMPLETION OF THE SIREET WORW.
AFTER PLACING THE GRAVEL OR CRUSHED STONE SURFACING, THE wm-OLLS AND KANHOLE CASTINGS SHALL BE
CONSTRUCTED To THE FINISHED GRADE OF THE ROADWAY SURFACE. EXCAVATION NECESSARY FOR BRINGING
MANHOLES To GRADE SHALL CENTER ABOUT THE MA?*lOLE AND BE HELD TO THE MINIMUM AREA NECESSARY- AT
THE COMPLETION OF THE KANHOLE ADJUSTMENT, THE VOID AROLM THE KANHOLE SHALL BE BALKFIlLED WITH
MATERIALS WHICH RESULT IN THE SECTION REV--IRED ON THE TYPICAL ROAD WAY SECTION, AND BE
THOROUGHLY COMPACTED. WHERE BITUMINOUS SLWACjE TREATMENT 15 TO BE PLACED, THE KANHOLE CASTINGS
SMALL BE INSTALLED FROM 1/2 INCH TO ONE INCH HIGHER THAN THE ROADWAY SURFACE, AS THE ENGINEER
MAY DIRECT.
IN C94ENT CONCRETE PAVENENT: MANHOLES, CATCH BASINS AND SIMILAR STRUCTURES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED
Apr ADJUSTED IN THE SA14E KANNER AS OUT'-'NLD ABOVE EXCEPT TKAT THE FINAL ADJUSTMENT SHALL BE
MADE AlV CAST IRON FFVME BE SET AFTER FORKS HAVE BEEN PLACED AND CMECKFD' IN FLAC'NG THE
cOMCRETE PAVEMENT, EXTREME CARE SHALL BE TWEN NOT TO AL -,-ER THE POSITION OF THE CASTING -IN ANY
WAY.
IN ASPHALT CONCRETE PAVEMENT: NP14HOLES SHALL NOT BE ADJUSTED UNTIL THE PAVEMENT IS COMPLETED,
AT WHICH TIME THE CENTER OF EACH mAM-lULE SHALL BE CAREFULLY RELOCATED FROM REFERENCES
PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED By THE CONTRACTOR. THE PAVEMENT SHALL BE CUT IN A RESTRICTED AREA AND
BASE MATERIAL BE REMOVED TO PERMIT REMOVAL OF THE CVVER, THE MANE _iHAL-L THEN 13E BROUGHT TO
PROPER GRADE UTILIZING THE SAME METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION AS FOR THE MANHOLE ITSELF.
THE CAST IRON FRAME SHALL BE PLACED CP4 THE CONCRETE BLOCKS AND WEDGED 'lP TO THE DESIRED GRADE'
THE ASPHALT CONCRETE PAVEMENT SHALL 13E CUT AND REMOVED TO A NEAT CIRCLE, THE DIAMETER OF WHICH
SHALL BE EQUAL TO THE OUTSIDE DIAMETER OF THE CAST IRON FRAME PLUS TWO FEET. THE BASE
MATERIALS AND CRus-fED ROCK S!'iA-L BE REMOVED AND CLASS B(3/4) CONCRETE 94ALL BE PLACED SO THAT
THE ENTIRE VOLUME OF THE EXCAVPTION IS REPLACED UP TO WITHIN BUT 140T TO EXCEED 1 1/2 IND-tES OF
THE FINISHED PAVEMENT SURFACE- ON THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CONCRETE, THE EDGE OF THE ASPHALT
CONCRETE PAVEMENT, PtO THE OUTER EDGE OF THE CASTING SHALL BE PAINTED WITH HOT ASPHALT CEMENT.
ASPHALT CONCRETE SHALL THEN BE PLACED AND COMPACTED WITH RAND TQ4--dERS AND A PATCHING ROLLER.
ASPHALT CONCRETE WILL 13E PAID FOR AS - ASPHALT CONCRETE PAVEMENT, CLASS B INCL-LUING PAVING
ASPHALT FIER TON". THE COMPLETE PATCH SHALL KATCH THE EXISTING PAVED SURFACE FOR TEXTURE,
DENSITY, AND UNIFORMITY OF WADE. THE JOINT BETWEEN THE PATCH AND THE EXISTING PAVEMENT SHALL
THEN BE CAREFULLY PAINTED WITH HOT ASPHALT CE)4ENT OR ASPHALT EMULSION AND SHALL BE IMMEDIATELY
COVERED WITH DRY PAVING SAND BEFORE THE ASPHALT CEMENT SOLIDIFIES. THE INSIDE THROAT OF THE
mAmi-IOLE SHALL BE THOROUGHLY MORTARED PIC PLASTERED.
ADJUSTMENT OF INLETS: THE FINAL ALIGNMENT AND GRADE OF CAST IRON FRAMES FOR NEW AND OLD INLETS
TO BE ADJUSTED TO GRADE WILL BE ESTABLISHED FROM THE FORKS OR ADJACENT PAVEW-,4T SURFACES- THE
FINAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE TOP OF THE INLET WILL BE PERFORMED IN SIMILAR WMAER TO THE ABOVE FOR
THAT PORTION OF
mpm4OLFS. ON ASPHALT CONCRETE PAVING PROJECTS USING CURB AND GUTER SECTION,
THE CAST IRON FRAME NOT EMBEDDED IN THE GUTTER SECTION SHALL BE SOLIDLY E14BEDDED IN CONCRETE
ALSO. THE CONCRETE SHALL EXTEND A MINIMUM OF SIX INCHES BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE CASTING AND
SHALL BE LEFT 1 1/2 INCHES BELOW TvIE TOP OF THE FRAME SO THAT THE WEARING COURSE 97 ASPHALT
CONCRETE PAVEMENT WILL BUTT THE CAST IRON FRAME. THE EXISTING CONCRETE PAV04ENT AND EDGE OF
THE CASTING SHALL BE PAINTED WITH HOT ASPHALT CEMENT. ADJUSTMENTS IN THE INLET STRUCTURE SHALL
