A TINNED COPPER DRAIN WIRE AND A CHROME VINYL JACKET.
THE 3/c SHIELDED PRE- EMPTION DETECTOR CABLE SHALL BE 3--M 0138 CABLE OR EQUIVALENT. THIS CABLE
WILL RUN FROM THE DETECTOR UNIT TO THE CONTROLLER CABINET AND NO SPLICES WILL BE ALLOWED.
THE SHIM COMMUNICATIONS/SIGNAL INTERCONNECT CABLE SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING:
1. CONDUCTORS: SOLID, SOFT DRAWN, ANNEALED COPPER, SIZE 19 AWG.
2. INSLK-ATION: SOLID, VIRGIN HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE OR POLYPROPYLENE, WIT1H TELEPHONE
INDUSTRY COLOR CODING.
3. CABLE CORE ASSEMBLY: INSULATED CONDUCTORS ARE TWISTED INTO PAIRS WITH VA1YING LAYS (TWIST
LENGT45) TO MINIMIZE CROSS TALK AND MEET STRICT CAPACITANCE LIMITS.
A. SHIELDING: A CORROSION/OXIDAT ION RESISTANT TINTED ETHYLENE COPOLYMER COATED (BOTH SIDES)
.008" THICK CORRUGATED ALUMINUM TAPE SHIELD IS APPLIED LONGITUDINALLY W17-H OVERLAP TO
PROVIDE 100% ELECTRICAL SHIELDING COVERAGE. A .005 CORRUGATED TAPE APPLIED IN THE SAW
MANNER IS ACCEPTABLE.
5. OUTER JACKET: A BLACK, LOW DENSITY HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT VIRGIN POLYETHY'LENE (COMPOUNDED
TO WITHSTAND SLP4-IGHT, TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS PLUS ABUSE
DURING INSTALLATION) IS EXTRUDED OV1ERALL TO PROVIDE A CONTINUOUS COVERING.
6. FOOTAGE MARKINGS: FOOTAGE MARKINGS MUST BE PRINTED SEQUENTIALLY A MINIMUM OF 2 ALONG THE
OUTER JACKET.
7. FILLING: THE ENTIRE CA13LE WITHIN THE OUTER JACKET IS FLOODED WITH PETFOLEL*4--POLYETHYLENE
GEL FILLING COMPOUND INCLUDING THE AREA BETWEEN THE OUTER JACKET AND THE SHIELD'
EACH WIRE SMALL BE W04BERF-D AT EACH TERMINAL END WITH A WRAP -AROUND TYPE WMBERING STRIP ACCORDING
TO THE SCHEDULE ATTACHED TO THESE SPECIAL PROVISIONS.
ALL WIRES TERMINATED AT A TEP44INAL BLOCK SHALL HAVE AN OPEN ENID, CRIMP STYLE SOLDERLESS TERMINAL.
ALL TERMINALS SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH A TOOL DESIGNED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THIS TYPE OF TERMINAL
AND CRIMPING WITH PLIERS, WIRE CUTTERS, ET--. , WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. ALL WIRING INSIDE THE
CONTROLLER CABINET AND AT INTERMEDIATE POINTS SHALL BE TRIMMED AND CABLED TOGETHER TO MAKE A NEAT
AND CLEAN APPEARING INSTALLATION.
NO SPLICING OF ANY TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONDUCTOR SHALL BE PERMITTED UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED ON THE
PLANS. ALL CONDUCTOR RUNS -94ALL BE PULLED TO THE APPROPRIATE SIGNAL TERMINAL COMPARTWENT BOARD
WITH PRFSSURE TYPE BINDING POSTS. PIE ONLY EXCEPTIONS SHALL BE THE SPLICES FOR DETECTOR LOOPS AT
THE ,1EAREST JUNCTION BOX TO THE LOOPS.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AND INSTALL ALL THE NECESSARY WIRING, FUSES Pw FITTINGS SO AS TO
COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION OF THE SIGNAL AND LIGHTING EQUIPMENT AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. ALL
MATERIALS AND INSTALLATION METHODS, EYZ-EPT AS NOTED OTHERWISE HEREIN, SHALL COMPLY WITH APPLICABLE
SECIIO6 OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE
INSTALLATION OF ALL WIRING SHALL CONFORM TO APPLICABLE PROVISIONS CONTAINED IN THE STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS EXCEPT AS SPECIFIED FIFREIN.
CONDUCTORS AND CABLE SHALL CONFORM TO THE APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS AS FOLLOWS:
(1) UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, ALL ELECTRICAL CONDUCTORS 94ALL BE APPROVED STRA-)ED COPPER
CONFORMING TO APPLICA13LE PORTIONS OF ASTM STANDARDS. INSULATION SHALL BE 600 VOLT
