ProiectDescriptionForanumberofyears,RentonRotaryhasrun,aspartofRentonRiverDays,arubberduckyrace.ThebottomofeachduckismarkedwithanumberedstickerforidentificationandduplicateinformationiskeptbytheClubtoinsureidentificationofthewinningducksintherace.ThestickeredducksareputinanetstretchedbetweentheguardrailsoftheHeuserWaySouthfootbridgeandroadway.Thenetisinplacefortwotothreehours.Tiesarecutsimultaneously,releasingonesideofthenetanddroppingtheducksintotheCedarRiver.ThecurrentthencarriestheduckstothetakeoutpointjustnorthoftheWellsStreetbridgeovertheCedarRiver.Atthetakeoutpointaheavychickenwirefenceiserected.ThechickenwireissecuredtometalpolesdrivenintothebedoftheCedarRiver.Adooriscutintooneportionofthechickenwirefenceandacapturechuteinstalled.ThewinningducksenterthechuteinorderofthewinningpositionswiththefirstduckinthechutefinishingfirstTheducksareremovedfromthechickenwirefencewhenthewinningduckshavebeencaptured.Theremainingducksareplacedinplasticgarbagecanstakenoffandcleaned.Thepolesareremoved,thechickenwirerolledandallmaterialsremovedfromtheRiver.Thepolesandfenceareinthewaterforaboutfourhours.Toinsurethatallrubberducksareretrieved,thecourseischeckedbyaRotarymemberormembersinarubberraftandonfootinthewater.Beyondthechickenwirefence,Rotarymembers,andvolunteersarestationedwithnetstocaptureanyducksthatgetbeyondthechickenwirefence.Theraceisrunonlyiftherivervolumeisn’ttoohighandinafishwindow.RECEIVED04/06/2018amorganrothPLANNING DIVISION
