I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Erica Richey called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m.

Lynne King made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Laurie Beden seconded. Ali
were in fa►ror, motian carried, agenda approved.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Laurie Beden made a motian to appro�e tf�e May 2415 minutes with one spelling correction,
Lynne King seconded. Ali were in favor, motion carried, amended minutes approved.

VI. ACTION/ BRI�FING
Julie Acteson and Erin Johnston, King County Library 5ystems �KCLS), were introduced and in
attendance to discuss the library opening for the �iberty Park Library. The dat� has been
con�rmed for the e�ent as 5aturday, AuguSt 22. Julie commented that since the capital bond
was appro�ed and passed in 2004, KCLS has done about 33 ground breakings & openings. She
said the largest so far was the Lake Hills apening with the crowd wrapped about the block and
she stopped counting at about 1,2Q0 peo�le. She expects Renton's opening to be big. The
ceremony will begin at 9:30am and they will set up near the building entrance and that is
w�ere the program and ceremony will start. Chairs wili face the entrance along with the
podium for speakers directed at the crowd and hoping the weather will be gooc� so there wili
be no need for#ents. Entertainment and music will be on #he exterior and interior. They
expect#he program to la5t about 30 minutes with the Mayor, Architects, Library Board Chair,
Friend �resident, and sta{�from KCLS to speak. They will have the large scissors for the
rib6on cutting and help from speakers and some of the children in attendance. The doors will
then open and there will b� morQ programs/entertainment. They say the building and
callection will be the star of the show! Julie then discussed what the City may want a5 part af

the program and Terry suggested, in order to iceep from just standFng in the line to get into
the building,there be outdoor�ntertainment on or near the field, which has already been
reserved, with children'S entertainment such as Lolo the Clown and a possible barbeque,
maybe hotdogs. The goal would be to spread out the crawd and provide entertainment and
acti�ities while waiting to get into the bui�ding. The barbeque would start around 11am and
be served until about 12:30pm, starting after the actual opening ceremony.
Parking was discussed around the 200 Mi11 Building, the lot beh4nd the Museum,the Liberty
Park side, and possible the Renton Senior Acti�ity Center,which is accessibfe to the library vi�
the trail.
TQrry and the group discussed the City's Trailer Equipment List which can be used far the
e�en#. Julie,John and Terry talked about flther logistics such as parking,traffic control,
designated parking for staff, dignitaries and volunteers and ad�ertising such as social media,
mailings and postcards, Renton Reporter, City's Press Release, barricades,ADA stalls,
temporary signage, restrooms, h�ilding access, and the length of the event.
Ju�ie also spoke about an ev�nt being held at the Renton Cammunity Center this Friday,June
Z9. This is KCLS's second year of`summer leaning' program and this year's theme is "Every
Hero Has a Story". They will be advertisir�g the 5ummer lunch program/free mea!sites, whic�
has been ex#ended to include more librarie5 thi�year. They want to tie together learning and
free meal sites and will start in Rentan this Friday, They are able#o do the prog{am with
amazing partn�rs such as KIRO 7 Cares, KCLS Foundation, Reaci� Out and Read, Waodland
Park Zoo, and Chipolte to name of few, There wiCE be books for kids, information for parents,
Lets Read section, healthy snacks, activities, performers,a designated teen room, award gi�e-
a-ways, and professianal actors dressed as superhero's.
7hey will connect foods to each super hero, i.e. what�oods gi�e them their"super strength"
such as Wonder Woman wifl have a basket with spinach, tomatoes, seeds/nuts, eggplant,
zucchin�, etc. Friday is also National Learning Day so#h�timing couldn"t be better!
VII. CITY REPORT/Terry Hi�ashivama. Peter Renner
Peter Renner ta�ked about the cor�struction progress at the Liberty Park �ibrary. The
landscaping ts largefy done on the park side and looks good. The 5tilt Walker is up as is the
Boy statue. He said there are small leaks in irrigation and being addressed/coming along. The
hand rails for the bridge a�e delayed /as they had to be removed ta install the nan-skip
adhesi�e ta the bridge deck and there are slight issues with the circuits in the hand rail5 so the
bridge is temporarily closed. The electrical inspection will not be completed until this is
complete. He also mentioned the carpet squa�e5 ha�e been re;ected due to some quality
cantrol issues but they look farward to a resolution soan. Peter also mentioned the parking
lat will be�esurfaced and wi�l loak great once complete.

The Highlands library is also mo�ing along smoothly. He said there ar� issues with the road
construction and serious discussions ha�e taken place with the franchise utilities. He said
there are all new lines going in and rebuilding of roads but there are a few issues with
designs. They are making progress. Sufficient parking and pedestrian traffic is key traffic. So
far, so good. The tontractor has been flexible and willing ta get it done.
Substantial completian is tentati�ely set for August 31 with an opening date in October. The
storm water facility will �nish ahead of time. The demolition of ald housing will saon hegin
and the Renton Wousing outside ring of buildings will be demolished saon too.
VI�I. KCLS R�PORT/JOHN SHELLER
Jof�n Sheller briefly talked about the e�ent this Friday at the RCC as detailed by Julie.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS
Lynne King connected with Linda at Center of Hape and she would greatly appreciate the
Boards as�istance sifting through the lihrary and getting rid af old, broken, destroyed material
and cycling in more craft ideas, color books, etc. They wi�l pick a weeknight date and work
together in getting this project going.
Terry m�ntioned the date for the Cauncil presentation should be in January and include
infarmatian relating to the Library openings and photo's, etc.

Terry reminded the group a�out persanal opinions vs. board representation/opinions.
X. INFORMATION

briefly discussed.
