Meeting Minutes

I. CAlL TO ORDER
Chair Erica Richey called the meeting to arder at 5:35 p.m.

II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Laurie Beden made a mation to approve the agenda as �resented. Lynne King seconded. All
were in fa�or, motion carried, agenda approved.
III. APPR�VAL�F MINUTES
Laurie Beden made a motian to approve the June z015 minutes wi#h a spelling correc#ion,
Lynne King seconded. All were in fa�or, motion carried, amended minutes approved.

V. BQARD tOMMUNICATIONS
None.
VI. ACTION / BRlEFING
Erin Johnstan, King County Library 5ystems �iCCLS), and John Sheller talked abaut the very
exciting program for the grand opening of the new Renton Downtawn Library. She said KCLS
has mailed over 45,D00 pos#card-invites. They have secured the Hazen High School Band for
the grand opening celebration and they will practice a bit prior but will play for abaut 15
minutes and be all decked out in their uniforms. There wi�l be opening remarks by the invited
dignitaries such as Mayor I.aw, Ruth Baleiko from Miller Hull, Friends of Renton Library, Erica
will briefly speak, and Gary Wasdin f�om KCLS, among others. After the ribbon cutting,#he
public is invited into the library w�ere there will be live music by Eli Rosenblatt, professional
'super-heroes', the Seahawk "Boom" mascot, and a BBQ outside in the park . Mot dogs will be
served starting at liam and stopp'rng around noon with the board members serving. Pl�ase
arrive about 9am and as a friendly reminder, dress accarding#o the weather and wear
comfortable shoes.

VII. CITY REPORT Ter Hi ashi ama
Terry Higashiyama introduced Roberta Gra�er, the new Community Services Administrative
Secretary, who was in attendance. Terry talked abaut the final construction progress such as
the sidewalk currently being poured,the trees being�rotected and she mentioned the
minimum is being done in the bus stop area since Main Street will be changed in a couple
years. She alsa talked about the traffic plan for the opening.
Te�ry then talked abaut the Highlands library and brie#ly discu5sed the window situation and
the beefed up police patrol in the area and the cantractor passibly hiring pri��te secur�ty.
The Mayor has offered a financial reward �or leads resulting in the arrest/prasecution of
those responsible for shooting out the windows. The siding will be delayed anti the library
oper�ing coul� now be delayed because of the windaw/ lass. Substantial completi�n is
tentatively set for August 31 with t�e tentative opening date in October.

John Sheller passed out a few handauts and talked about some upcoming e�ents.
Vlll. OLD SUSINESS
Terry said the City is a finalist for the Chaice Neighborhood Grant and we hop�to find aut
more i:nformation sometime in mid ta end September.
Lynne King commented on the REACH Center of Hope Library and said there is nothing new.
Just need to pick a date that works and a get together to work an sorting of the library
materials. Any day but the second Thursday af the month.
IX. NEW BUSINE55
Terry briefly talked abnut the Baard Terms and reminded Laurie her te�m is just about to
expire. Laurie decided to continue with the Board far another term. Thank you #or yaur
dedication Laurie!
X. INFORMATION
Riverview Bridge is scheduled to ha�e an opening/dedication �n September 18, fram noon
to 1pm. Invitations will be mailed soan.
There is a walk-thru of the new downtown library that will happen August 19 with the Mayo�,
1ay Covington, Dri Ralph, and the Board. �veryone is Iooking farward to the eve�ing.
