CALL TO ORDER In Attendance: Members: Marlene Winter,AI Dieckman, Larry Reymann,Tim Searing,Shun Takano, and Troy Wigestrand City Staff: Kelly Beymer, Cailin Hunsaker,Jessi Merriman Guests: none Chair Marlene Winter, called the meeting to order at 4:30pm. Roll call was taken. All board commissioners were present except for Cynthia Burns and Avni Mungra.The motion to excuse the absentees was seconded, all were in favor, motion carried. 2. TOUR The board members walked up to the Coal Mine Shaft Lift on Benson Road South to view a possible volunteer project to weed and clean the location for improved public viewing.Then they boarded a van and traveled out to see the Cedar River pog Park.Then they went into the Community Center for their meeting. 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The motion to approve the agenda was seconded, all were in favor, motion passed. 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The motion to approve the June 13, 2017 minutes was seconded, all were in favor, motion passed. 5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLIC COMMENTS None. 6. BOARD COMMUNICATION Benson Hill–Community Plan Advisory Board(BHCPABJ— no update Student Update:no update Other:Troy suggested to start taking pictures at these board meetings. Larry asked about the Corridor Plan, Kelly will address this during the Administrator's Report.AI asked why there was a south gate at Coulon Park. Kelly and Cailin responding saying it's for Emergency/Fire accessibility. Parks department is working on signage for this gate. 7. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS Custer Naming Update–Kelly spoke to the mayor about the Commission's questions, and she says that he will be supportive if they choose not to fulfill the naming request.This requires a unanimous board decision.This topic will be the number one priority at the September meeting.The board discussed the policy criteria,other naming options and impacts this decision might have on future requests. Neighborhood Program–Neighborhood Program Coordinator Drey Hicks shared that there are currently 84 recognized neighborhoods in the program;there's 18 remaining neighborhood events through October(with possible ones closer to end of the year); Neighborhood Grants are$1,000,which are applied for during February and March are then reviewed and selected via the Grant Committee;anticipating 4 new neighborhoods joining the program by spring 2018. ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Civic Core Concept Plan (Riverwalk)-there will be a meeting on 8/9/17 at 6:OOpm at the Senior Center.The plan is looking at moving the walkway up to the street level. Kelly just found out about the 8/9 meeting today, so will forward the board of the next meeting. Kelly also expressed her gratitude for the board's participation in recent events, like the 4th of July, introducing movies and River Days. 9. OLD BUSINESS none 10.
