Ownership was transferred to the City in January 2018 as part of the SR-900 turnback agreement. It is a three span bridge that crosses over the Cedar River. The project will remove the existing paint from the steel girders, repair corrosion damage and apply a new protective paint system. The project will also perform a seismic analysis and retrofit along with other improvements. The main span is carried by steel girders. The girders are coated with paint to protect the steel from corrosion. Corrosion causes section loss which results in a reduced load carrying capacity of the girders. The existing paint is failing. The bridge is located in a zone of moderate to high liquefication susceptibility during seismic events. New project. In April 2018, the project was awarded $3,000,000 of Washington State funding (2018 Supplemental Transportation Budget) to perform a seismic retrofit and painting of the bridge.
