CALL TO ORDER
The November meeting was called to order at 4:3Q p.m. by Chair, Marge Richter.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Cynthia Burns made a motion seconded by Ron Regis to approve the 5eptember
minutes as written. AII were in favor, motion carried.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mr. Shepherd introduc�d our newest park board member, Troy Wigestrand.
Shawn Daiy, Senior Center Coordinator, distributed an invitation to the board
members to attend the senior�olunteer di�ner.
Mr. Shepherd announced new sea�s had been ord�red for Carco TF�eatre. He
also re�iewed the Senior Center coffee bar expansion funded by $25,000 from
the Renton Rotary and $10,a00 in donations and city matching funds.

SPECIAL PRESENTATLON
Tom Beckwith re�iewed the sequence of events, the scope of wark and tasks
in�ol�ed wi#h the parks and recreation comprehensi�e plan. This wouid include a
staff workshop, park board retreat, and re�iew of the scope of work with the city
council. We will evaluate our existing facflit�es and programs and determine
where we want to go. The outcome will result in the de�elopmen# of a 20-year
comprehensi�e plan.
CORRESPONDENCE
Mr. Shepherd reviewed a letter from Jim 4wens, Executi�e Director CAST for
K1DS, thanking the department for their s�pport at Coufon Park for the fishing
derby for disabled and disad�antaged children.
CONSENT
Rhonda Hewitt requested to plant a tree and plaque at Liberty Park in memory of
Glenda Regis. Cynthia Bums made a motion seconded by Michael Q'Donin to
approve this request. All present were in favor, motion carried.
Jana Post, �lympia Physical Therapy, requested #o place a bench with a plaque
at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park in memory of Dustin Alexander DeVoe,
Michael O'Donin made a motion to appro�e the requEst. Cynthia Bums
seconded the motion. Motion carried, request appror►ed.
Civil Air Pa#rol, requEsted donation of ineeting space at Carco Theatre for their
squadron. Ron Regis made a motion to concur with staff recommendation and
deny tt�is request. Usage of this type would precl�de the use by our staff for
scheduled programs. Michael O'Donin seconded the motion. Motion carried,
request denied.
The MADD organization requested to hold their second annual Great American
Picnic and Auction at Liberty Park in June of 200�. Their acti�ities include
entertainment, children's perFormances, face painting, food concessions and a
softball toumament. There will also be an auction to raise funds far the
organization, They anticipate an attendance of between 350-500. The
recreation staff recammends approval of the Moth�rs Against Drunk Drir►ing
picnic contingent on working with our staff to coordinate this event and paying the
appropriate fees. Michael O'Donin made a motion seconded by Ron Regis to
approv� this e�ent. All were in fa�or, motion carr�ed.
Friends and co-workers of Sam and Sandy Chastain requested permission to
plant a tree with a plaque on the Cedar Ri�er Trail in memory of their grandson,
Tucker Lee Wa�es. Staff wil! coordina#e the purchase and location and

recommended approval of t�is request. Cynthia Bums made a motion to
approve #he request. All were in fa�or, mo#ion carried.
Robert MiEler requested to plan# a memorial tree and plaque in memory of his
wife at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park. Staff recommended ap�roval of this
request, however, there curren#ly is not a �acant location and Mr. Miller wi11 be
placed on the waitlist. Cynthia Burns made a mation secanded by Ron Regis to
approve the request. Motion carriEd, request approved.
King County 5exual Assau�t Resource Center requested wai�er of the roam
rental fee on No�ember 14 far a small classroom at the community center. They
ha�e requested waiver of the $20 fee for the day. Staff recommends appro�al of
this request on a one-time basis. Michae! O'Donin made a motion seconded by
Ron Regis to appro�e this request. Motion carried request appro��d.
Piazza Renton �olunteers, Marge Richter and Diana Pastlewait, have requested
assistance in the annual holiday tree lighting at the Piazza Parlc on December 9
from 5:00 p.m. unti! 7:00 p.m. Staff recommends appro�al and will assis# as
needed. Ron Regis made a motion to a�prove the request. Troy Wigestrand
seconded t�e motion, all present were in favor, motion carried.
Evelyn O'Kert requested to plant a tree and plaque in memory of Barbara Willard.
Cynti�ia Burns made a motion s�conded by Ron Regis to ap�rove th� request.
Motion carried, Ms. O'Kert's request will be placed on the waiting list.
Da�e Waller, 5kidog Sports, requested permission for use of Gene Coulon
Memorial Beach Park as the sight of the "2001 Tige" and Stingray Boats Demo
Day's" on February 2-4, 23-25 and March 16-18 and June 1-3. The demo days
give custom�rs the opportunity to drive the model of their choice before
purchasing. Staff recommended ap�roval of this usage contingent on
compliance with the following condit�ons:
✓ Use of on-site advertising, publicity, banners, promotianal acti�ities will not
be allowed.
✓ All normal la�nch, moorage and parking requirements must be observed
✓ Maximum number of boats at any one time will be iimited to four
✓ All appropriate fees will be charged for tF�e June 1-3 dates, including
faunch, parking and moorage fees.
✓ Overnight usage of the boat iaunch parking Iot will not be permitted
February 2-4, February 23-25 and March 1 s-18
Mr. Waller discussed his business a�d cammitment to water safe#y. There was
discussion regarding the June date ar�d impact this event would ha�e on the park
and parking. Cynthia Burns made a motion to approve this event with the

conditions imposed by staff, Ron Regis seconded �he motjon. One member
opposed, three were in fa�or. Motion carried.
Suzanna Stubbert requested to ha�e her wedding on the grassy lawn arEa
outside the community center. She ptans on booking the banquet room for her
reception. The wedding wiIl take place Fr�day, June 15�h a# fi:00 p.m. w�h
approximately 100-i 30 guests in attendance. Suzanna has been ad�ised chairs
from the community center cannot be taken outside, no alcoholic be�erages ar�
alfowed in the park and final caordinatEon of plans must be made with Kris
Stimpson, Cammunity Cent�r. Cynthia Bums made a motion seconded by
Michael O'Donin to approve the request continger�t �n compiiance with park rul�s
and reguiations, All were in favor, motion carried.
OTHER
Herb Pos#lewait presented copies of a proposed centennial countdown sign for
the Piazza. Syl�ia A�len, Recreation Director, explained befo�e this sign was
brought to par�C board for consideration it must be presented to the Mayor and
city staff to ensure compliance with the sign ordinance and ob#ain all approvals
first..
