CALL TO ORDER
The April meeting was called to order by Chair, Marge Richter a# 4:31 p.m.
APPROVAL OF M�NUTES
A motion was made by Michael O'Donin and seconded to approv� the minutes as written. All were in
favor, minutes appro�ed.
OTHER
The Chair suggested to pull Consent item G and review first to allow Mr. Darst to leave for ano#her
commitment. Mr. Shepherd reviewed the request by the VFW Steering Committee to hold an Armed
Forces Day program from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on May 19, 2001 at the Memorial Park. They may senre food,
pop and chips as a fundraiser. They are trying to arrange a military band and equipment display also.
Staff noted any display of equipment would ha�e to be coordinated wit� our parks maintenance
supervisor. The request to be designa#ed as an official Centennial event wauld have to be reviewed by
the Centennial Committee. Cynthia Burns made a motion ta approve tF�e request conting�nt on
coordination with staff. Ralph Evans seconded by motion. Ail were in fa�or, request approved.
ANN�UNCEMENTS
Mr. Shepherd announced the fiollowing acti�ities: �
✓ Ren#on Youth Day on Saturday Aprif 14, 2001
✓ Skate Park Dedication Ce�emony on April 24 at 6:00 p.m.
✓ Renton Youth 5ymphony on May 6t" at 7:00 p.m.
CONSENT
Mr. Shepherd reviewed #he remainder of the consent items.
A. Alber� KhacY�aturol reserved the Renton Senior Center for a wedding reception on June 16,
2001. He has requested to hold the wedding ceremony outside the center. Staff

B. The St. Bernard Club of Puget Sound requested to hoid their annual summer specialty
show at Thomas T�asdale Park. The date is planned for June 17, 2001. There will be
about 50 dogs, all kept on a leash. Ap participants caean up after their pets. This group
has used our facilities for many years and always been cou�teous guests; therefore, sfaff
recommends approva!of this picnic pending receipt of a certificate of insurance, payment
for picnic shelter and bathroom key deposit.
C. James Ganley reques#�d to p�ant a tree and memorial plaque in memory of Lucille Ganley.
Currently there is a waiting list of six waiting to plant trees at Coulon Park. Staff
recommends approva! of this request and wifil notify applicant when a spot becomes
a�ailable.
D. Highlands 5occer Club is using the Kiwanis Park Building for their annual open
registration. Tl�ey are requesting to hang a banner on the chain link fence. They will use
`quick ties" and promptly remo�e after use, Staff will coordinate this activity and
recommends apprvval.
E. SKIFORALL Foundation requested to host on June 23 and June 30 two adaptive cycling
and in-line skating activities from the Renton Community Center, utilizing #he Cedar Ri�er
Trail. These e�ents would be from 9:00 �.m,-3:00 p.m. and would require tase of the
parking lot, Cedar Ri�er Trail and restrooms. They are also requesting to park their 45'
trailer in the parking lot, behind the community center and lea�e it there from June 23�
until after their event on June 30th. Additionally they requested the locked post along ti�e
traif be removed tor #he day, being replaced at the conclusior� of their daily e�ent. Staff
recommends approval and will coordinate another location to park their trailer for the
week and have our staff open and close trail gates for access.
F. Clarissa J. Ruston requested use of tk�e C�dar River Trail and the parking lot at the Ren#on
Community Center on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday May 6. The usage is for a joint
Renton Parks and WRPA and Skate Ability (an inline skate school} co-sponsored program.
The Inline Skating [nstructor Brush-up course will be he�d at the community cEnter on
Friday, May 4-Sunday, May fi, 2001. Friday will be classroom instruction and Saturday
and Sunday thE agenda includes cFassroom leaming and skating. On Sunday the program
wil[ conclude with I�ssons that are availab2e to the general public. Anticipated attendance
will be between 25-40. A request for wai�er of fees, with t�e exception of Sunday where a
$100 fee will be ci�arged is reques#ed. Staff recornmends approva!of this request.
G. This item previously reviewed.
H. Jean and Doug Naylor requested use o# the area �e#ween #he Senior Cen#er and the
Cedar Ri�er for their wedding reception from 2:Q0-S:00 p.m. They ha�e reserved the
banquet facilities as well. Staff recommends approva! contingent on final coordina�ion
with our Senior Center Coordinator, Shawn Dal�.

Ron Regis made a motion seconded by Cynthia Burns to approve consent i#ems A thru F and
Ftem H as re�iewed wi#h staff recommendations. All were in #avor, consent agenda appror►ed.
OTHER
There was discussion regarding the parks tour and the possibility of rotating locations of t�� park baard
meetings each mont�. Mr. Searing noted the excellent quality of the trail maintenanca and Leslie
Betlach updated the Board on the hanging basket program.
ADJOURNMENT
Ralph E�ans made a mo#ion to adjourn the meeting at 5:1 D p.m. The motion was seconded by Michael
Q'Donin. All were in fa�or, ti�e Aprii 2001 meeting was adjoumed.
