All were in favor, motion carried. AUDIENCE C�MMENT Michael O'Halloran, Municipal Arts Commission, informed the board the Donkey at Tonkin Park would be moved on October 7, 2002, to make it more �isible to the public. He invited anyane who wished to watch to attend. Peg DuBois had submitted a fetter requesting to have an anniversary party at Coulon Park, use of a shelter and a singing duo to appear that would require use of two speakers, 4 mike outlets and amplification devices. Tf�e Board �oiced concems and questions rEgarding the possibility of a conflict with the Tuesday market. Robert explained this would be different than the Tuesday market. The vendors participating in the weekend market would be part of ti�e Yakima Growers Association and doing a pilot program to see if they would want to do this next year and use the Pavilion Building. This is a one-month promotion. The Board's only concern stemmed with taking away bus�ness from our Tuesday market. ANNOUNCEMENTS Jim annaunced the upcoming hydroplane races and #he death of 3D-year part-time employee, Ken Gerber. CORRESPONDENCE Mr. Dieckman submitted a IettEr respond�ng to fh� pre�ious mon#h's discussi�n regarding the naming of a park/facility after Sam Chastain. AI su�gested naming the entire trai� system, within the ctty limits, in memory of Sam. If that was not acceptabfe, his second choice was consideration for North Highlands Neighborhood Center, if it is rebuilt. Ron Regis was in agreement that the en#ire trail system should be named after 5am, Michael O'Donin commented he realized there would be an impact in changing ti�e current name of#he Cedar Ri�er Trail, but he felt w� should go forward n:ow with a recommendatian, rather than wait fo see if we are abfe to purchase t�e link. There was further d�scussion regarding the North Highlands redevelopment and the possibility of a new recreation center replacing the current one and naming that after Sam. The discussion was tabled until Jim had an opportunity to discuss this with Sandy Chastain. CONSENT Jim Shepherd review�d the consen�agEnda items A through [. Cynthia Bums mad� a m�tion seconded by Ron Regis to pull items A and E off the agenda for further discussion and to approve #he remainder of the agenda with staff recommendations. All present were in favor, motion carried. There was discussion regarding the request by Peg DuBois to ha�e F�er anniversary celebration, including a picnic a�d concert at the nor#h s�eiter of Coulon Beach. She requested to have a small amplifier and to possibly taice donations for United Air�ines employees affec#ed by the e�ents of September 11. Ron Regis made a motion to deny this reauest, Ralph Evans seconded the motion. All were in favor, request denied. Ms. DuBois requested a refund for the shelter fee, decidtng to host the e�ent at her home rather than the park if amplifiers were not allowed. Jerry Rerecich, Recreation Manager, said her fees would be refunded. City of Renton Park Board Minutes January $, 20Q2 The Yakima Valley Farmers requested to use the Piazza Saturdays and Sundays for the month of August for a Farmers Market. The Board vaiced concems tha#this may compete with the Tuesday market and take business away from them. Roger Baldoz explained this wouId be different than the Tuesday market selling mainly produce and if it is successful they would possibly use #he pa�ilion building next year. Staff will work with group on the fees and ensuring proper insurance is obtained. The Board requested Roger retum in SEptember and gir�e a report on how they did. Cynthia Burns made a motion to appro�e the request, seconded by Ralph Evans, all were in fa�or, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Tom Malphraus, Water Uti[ity Division, attended the meeting to update the Board on the Well EW-3 Landscape Restoration Schedule for Liberty Park. ADJOURNMENT Cynthia Burns made a motion, seconded by Marge Richter to adjaum the June meeting.
