Troy Wigestrar�d called the July meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ron Regis made a motion secon�ed by Michael O'Donin to approve the June
minutes as submitted. All were in fa�or, motion carried.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Leslie announced we hired two new employees, one to fill the golf course
manager vacancy and the other to fill Glenn's CIP position.
CONSENT
Jim reviewed the Consent Agenda items A thru I with staff recommendations.
Parks added to the staff recommendation on request item H, the group requested
a catering truck pull up next to the shelter, be amended to state parking stalls
would be coned off for the truck. Marge Richter made a motion to appro�e t�e
consent agenda as recommended by staff. Ralph E�ans seconded the motion;
al[ were in favor, consent agenda appro�ed.
QLD BUSINESS
Leslie Betlach reviewed the Veterans Park Conceptual P�an and updat�d
everyone on t�e proposed timeline. We an#icipate gro�nd breaking in November
and dedication on Memorial Day.
Mike Toll, Golf Pro, reported on the golf course revenues, which were down by
9% this year from last year. He reported also on the high school leagues and a
potential program recruiting partic�pants as �olunteers at the course. These
volunteers would assist at large tournaments, pick up range balls, etc.
Sam C�astain Memorial
There was further discussion regarding the naming of a parklfacility in memory of
Sam Ci�astain after Jim Shepherd discussed the issue with Sandy Chastain. Jim
reported Sandy indicated eithe�-the trail connection, or the en#ire trail, or if North
Highlands Neighborhood Center were rebuil# would be a fi#ting tribute #o Sam.
Ron Regis �elt the entire trail system within the city limits should be named after
Sam, while other members telt ti�e trail connec#ion would be a beautiful spot and
more appropriate. There were concems about the Iength of time to acquire and
complete the trail connection. Cynthia Bums made a motion secanded by Ralph
E�ans to propose to Council to name the trail connection in memory of Sam
Chastai�, and to post signage as soon as practical. Ron Regis was opposed, all
athers were in fa�or, motion carried.
NEW BUSENESS
Council requested the park board to review the park rules and regulations to see
if any changes were warranted with the de�elopment of Southport. Staff will
retum next month with a recommendation.
OTHER
Rotation of cF�air—Ralph Evans wi�l serve as chair for the next year.
Cynthia Bums encouraged everyone to attend the teen musical i'Honk".
ADJQURNMENT
Tim Searing made a motion seconded by Marge Rich#er to adjoum the meeting.
All present were in favor, motion carried, meeting adjoumed at 5:45 p.m.
