CALL TO ORDER
The City of Renton January Park Board meeting was called to order by Chair,
Ralph Evans, at 4:32 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The December 2002 meeting was cancelled; therefore, Ralph requested a
motion to approve the November 2002 minutes. Troy Wigestrand made a motion
seconded by Ron Regis to approve the No�ember minutes as written. All were in
favor, motion carried.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mr. Shepherd announced his upcoming retirement and also the retirement of
Dennis Breznikar.
CONSENT
Jim Shepherd reviewed consent I�tters A-H. Item C, regarding a new policy for
Veterans Memorial Park, was pulled from the consent agenda far further
discussion.

Lesiie Betlach, Parks Direc#or1 explained that the Veterans Memorial Park was
not act�ally a park �ut a monument. Therefore, this difference warranted
formula#�ng a different policy for memorials ti�an the one established for park
sites. In cooperation with the Veterans Memorial Park Steering Cammittee a
policy was drafted. The Board and staff re�iewed and discussed this draft. �t was
staff's recommendations not to accep# memoria� app�ications by groups; this
would take away from the indi�idual names. Also the re�enue g�nerated from
the tile sales wi11 assist in funding and maintaining the memorial. Samples of the
tile an� appropriate Enscriptions were reviewed. Suggested modifications #o the
draft pvlicy were to add the word "as space allows" to #4. To #3 add who ser�ed
the United States of America �n a recognized brar�ch of service. Effective
Jan+�ary 315t the price would be raised to $�OO.DD. Marge Richter made a
motionT seconded by Michael O"Donin to accept the Veteran's Memorial Park
Policies as amended by the Board. All prEsent were in fa�or, motion carried,
policy approved.
The remair�der of the consent items were re�iewed. Troy Wigestrand made a
mot�on, seconded by Tim Searing to appro�e consent i#em A, B, D, E and H with
staff recommendations and denying items F and G. All present were in favor,
motion carried.
OTHER
Reschedufing of November 2003 meeting
The second Tuesday in No�ember of this year falls on a city holiday. The Board
�oted to change the November meeting from Tuesday to Thursday, No�ember
i 3th.
Ralph Evans suggested enclosing mutt mitts with the mail outs for dog licenses
or making them available at the community and senior centers. He also asked
about t�e possibility of interpretive signage along the trail identifying the �arious
plant species.
Jon Jainga and Leslie Betlach gave updates on �arious projects including the
boat launch, Liberty Park, Coulon Park playground construc#ion and the trail
connection.

Tim Searing made a motion seconded by Ron Regis to adjourn the meeting. All
present were in fa�or, meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
