HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdmin ReportEXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT t;`R M E M O R A N D U M DATE: September 10, 2018 TO: Ed Prince, Council President Members of Renton City Council FROM: Denis Law, Mayor Robert Harrison, Chief Administrative Officer SUBJECT: Administrative Report • The Solid Waste Utility will hold its annual Fall Recycling Day on Saturday, September 15th at Renton Technical College from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This one - day event gives residents an opportunity to recycle materials at one convenient place. Items that will be accepted include: • Bulky yard waste • Clean wood • Broken concrete (rebar excluded) • Bricks • Porcelain (metal hardware removed) • Scrap metal (non-metal parts removed from bikes, lawn mowers, etc.) • Appliances • Tires (off the rim) • Motor oil, used oil filters, antifreeze, auto batteries, ni-cad and alkaline batteries • Styrofoam peanuts and block • Number 2 and 4 plastic bags • Unusable textiles, clothing • Cardboard • Dry/clean mattresses and box springs ($15 per piece, cash only) • The third annual Renton Multicultural Festival will take place on September 14th and 15th and promises to be two days of colorful and fun entertainment. Admission to this family -friendly event is free. The festival opens on Friday, September 14th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Carco Theatre. On Saturday, September 15th, the festival moves downtown to the Renton Pavilion Event Center and Piazza Park from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Two indoor stages will showcase music and dances from all over the world. Attendees will also be treated to cultural activities, community booths, food trucks, and arts and crafts. For more information about the festival, visit http://rentonwa.gov/rentonfestival. Preventative street maintenance, traffic impact projects, and road closures will be at the following locations: ✓ Monday, September 10th through Friday, September 14th, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Expect intermittent lane closures along SE Renton Issaquah Road and NE Sunset Blvd between 144th Avenue SE and Union Avenue NE for preventative sewer line maintenance. Flaggers will be on -site to assist with traffic flow. Questions may be directed to Tom Main at 206-999-1833. ✓ Monday, September 10th through Friday, September 14th, 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. East Valley Road will be reduced to one lane at the intersection of SW 19th Street for the 1-405 Direct Connector Project. One lane of East Valley Road will remain open with flaggers directing traffic through the work site. Questions may be directed to Justin Johnson at 425-430-7291. ✓ Thursday, September 13th through Friday, September 14th, 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. East Valley Road will be reduced to one lane between SW 19th Street and Taylor Ave SW for the 1-405 Direct Connector Project. One lane of East Valley Road will remain open with flaggers directing traffic through the work site. Questions may be directed to Justin Johnson at 425- 430-7291. ✓ Monday, September 10th through Wednesday, September 12th, 10:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Talbot Road South will be FULLY CLOSED between the northbound I- 405 on -ramp and the southbound 1-405 off -ramp for the 1-405 Direct Connector Project. Signed detour routes will be provided for both the southbound and northbound directions of Talbot Road South. Questions may be directed to Justin Johnson at 425-430-7291. ✓ Monday, September 10th through Friday, September 14th, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Expect intermittent lane closures and traffic delays along Talbot Road South (SR 515) related to the 1-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector Project. In addition, northbound and southbound nighttime lane restrictions and closures along SR 167 and 1-405 are also scheduled this week related to the project. The information outlines specific dates and times of the closure. SW 19th Street between 100 SW 19th Street and 204 SW 19th Street will be completely closed for up to 10 calendar days to accommodate the construction of the Rolling Hills Ed Prince, Council President Members of Renton City Council Page 4 of 4 September 10, 2018 Creek culvert tie-in to the existing 60-inch storm line as part of the 1-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector project. North 27th Place will be closed for the construction of the North 27th Place Bridge Scour Repair Project. Road closure on South 14th Street between Smithers Avenue South and Davis Avenue South for utility construction. Questions may be directed to Patrick DeCaro at 425-207-6013. ✓ Monday, September 10th through approximately Friday, January 4th, 2019. Traffic revisions have been implemented near Talbot Hill Elementary School along Smithers Avenue South between South 21st Street and South 23rd Street to provide access to the school for buses and parents dropping off and picking up students. These revisions were needed due to the closure of the school's east parking lot which had been used by the buses. This is a temporary revision that will be in effect until repairs are made to the parking lot. ✓ Monday, September 10th through October 2019. The Renton Hill Utility Replacement Project is underway with anticipated completion in May 2019. Following completion of the utility project, an overlay of the affected surface streets will be conducted as part of the 2019 overlay project. The overlay is scheduled to be completed prior to October 31, 2019.
