There are fixed points that the driveway must connect. The back of the side walk, that is in line with the existing sidewalk on N 30th St. and the garage slab at the house. The transitions at the top and bottom of the driveway were stretched in an effort to avoid damage to vehicles entering and exiting the property and this exacerbated the issue. This variance is contained on the subject property and does not affect other property in the vicinity. It is not detrimental to the public as access to the residence is available by a walkway that only minimally uses the driveway. All street improvements have been retained in a consistent manner; the road, curb and sidewalk are at a consistent slope to the adjacent properties. The approval of the request does not grant a special privilege. The circumstances of this individual lot precluded a steep driveway and there is little alternative to avoid transitions that could be damaging to vehicles. With many neighborhoods in the City on slopes, steeply sloped driveways occur regularly. The driveway was constructed to minimize the potential for damage to vehicles entering and exiting the property and connect the street to the garage. The variance in slope is the minimum it can be to accomplish this. RECEIVED 11/20/2018 amorganroth PLANNING DIVISION
