Lock and Load Wall (24 -Inch Drain Sleeve)

Dear Ms. Cavell:
In accordance with your request, Earth Solutions NW, LLC (ESNW) has prepared this letter and
assessment of the proposed lock and load wall construction and drain sleeve installation. We
understand a segment of proposed lock and load wall will incorporate a sleeve to accommodate
passage of a storm drain through the base of the wall. Installations of this nature with lock and
load walls are not uncommon and can be completed successfully. The following should be
considered with respect to the sleeve installation.
• As proposed, the 24 -inch diameter sleeve should be positioned on a firm subgrade
prepared along the top of the first row (Row 1) of the lock and load panels.
• As typical with drain sleeve penetrations, the lock and load panel(s) should be trimmed
to accommodate the penetration.
• Crushed rock (face gravel) should be used to backfill around (and above) the pipe sleeve
alignment as construction of Row 2 (and Row 3) proceeds.
The geotechnical engineer or his representative should be onsite to observe and document to
the installation of the sleeve and related wall construction. As necessary, supplement
geotechnical recommendations for achieving the design objectives will be provided.
