RE: Maple Highlands Plat Hearing
My name is Christopher L.Johnson. My wife Andrea and I live at 16404 SE 135TH Street, Renton, WA 98059.We have
lived here for over 17 years. The beauty of living on a dead end street is that it has provided a protected neighborhood
where children can play without worry and safety concerns of traffic. All adults here look out for the safety of our
community's children. Currently there are ten children on our street who are under the age of twelve. Opening 164th to
through traffic would end this protected environment and put children at significantly increased danger of injury related
to cars. The families on our street will no longer be able to control the flow of unknown people through this once
protected area. Please do not proceed with plans to make 164th into a through street.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Dear City of Renton,
I have attached a letter to this email objecting to the opening up of SE 135th St going west and including 164th
Ave SE. Thank you in advance for reading my letter and hearing my objections.

RE: Maple Highland Plat Hearing from February 12, 2019
My name is Doris Yepez and I have lived at 16444 SE 135th St. for 20 years. I am very much opposed to
opening traffic from 164th Ave SE to SE 135th St. First of all, our street is very narrow and there is a very
sharp corner close to Liberty High School, at the corner of SE 135th St. and 166th Ave SE.The road is
primitive, and if through traffic is allowed, this will make for a very unsafe situation, not only for cars but
for the students who walked down our street to one of the three schools close by, Liberty High School,
Maplewood Middle School and Briarwood Elementary. In addition, this would affect greatly the integrity
of our neighborhood, and if the road is opened, we will have a lot of traffic going by our house.
Our street is very narrow and two cars passing each other is very difficult and to widen the road wide
enough for two-way traffic would be a very big and destructive impact on all our property of those who
live on SE 135th St. We now have little kids on our street and animals that are not accustomed to traffic
and increase the traffic volume would reduce the quality of living in our neighborhood. A better
alternative, if I may suggest it, would be to put 134th through directly which would not have any sharp
turns or blind corners.
Right now, especially during the summer we get a lot of traffic from parents and kids who are trying to
gain access to the Liberty High School baseball fields. On any weekend day where there are games,
there are a lot of cars traveling at high speed going up our street only to find that it is a dead end turning
around and racing back down the street. My neighbor has counted 20, which for a short dead end is a
lot. This is dangerous and if the city or someone could install better signage that states no ball field
access that would be very much appreciated.
Thank you ahead of time for considering my opinion on this matter. If you have any questions or need
any information, please feel free to contact me at dorisdandelion@vahoo.com or on my cell at 425-891-
0730.
Sincerely,
Doris Yepez

RE: Maple Highland Plat Hearing from February 12, 2019
My name is Michelle Hohlbein and I live on the corner of SE 135th St. and 164th for the past 14 years.
Opening traffic from 164th to SE 135th St. would have a direct impact on my property. First off since I am
on the corner anyone travelling south on 164th would have to take a hard left onto SE 135th St. which
could result in someone missingthe turn and crashinginto my property. It also puts headlights into my
bedroom for everyone who is coming that direction.
Right now, especially during the summer we get a lot of traffic from parents and kids who are trying to
gain access to the Liberty High School baseball fields. On any weekend day where there are games, I
could easily count twenty or more vehicles traveling at high speed going up our street only to find that it
is a dead end turning around and racing back down the street. This is dangerous and if the city or
someone could install better signage that states no ball field access that would be very much
appreciated.
I would also like to point out that opening SE 135th up to have direct access to Liberty High School is not
the safest route in my opinion since if you were traveling south on 164th you would have to take a sharp
left onto SE 135th then at the bottom you take a sharp right onto 166th then a sharp left onto 136th these
are both blind corners and create hazards that can be avoided. Any alternative would be better to avoid
the sharp turns or blind corners.
Question about the sewer, when they bring this through our neighborhood who pays for it? Will we the
residents of SE 135th be required to pay for the sewer line that runs in front of our property? My lot
runs horizontally to SE 135th where everyone else's lots runs vertically so my distance is extreme
compared to the others. Are we required to hook up now? I would like more information.
I would like to thank you for your time and for leaving this hearing open due to the power outage and
snow storm. If you have any questions or need any information, please feel free to contact me at
michellehohlbein@gmail.com or 206-407-7304
Sincerely,
