Community members and I from our organization attended the last City Council Meeting where testimony time was filled by many community members in support of Renton Comicon and I was unable to speak on behalf of the Rental Licensing Inspection Ordinance. Therefore, I am writing today in support of the program. This program has been implemented in Kent, Tukwila and Seattle. These programs have not been a significant cost burden to the landlords in those cities and I would hope that something similar would be put in place in Renton. Myself, and the organization I work for are in favor of safe, healthy, and affordable homes for all Renton residence. I think it is important that city council passes this ordinance. I heard that you received the post cards that were sent by our community members. I hope that you take this email and those post cards and consider them when making your decision tonight. This situation is so disappointing because I know the federal government has provided funds for the development of Renton airport to make sure GA has been supported/encouraged. We can't even begin to know of the complexity's that you are dealing with this in this area since we're just tax paying citizens of the town and we need your help to solve them. Please let us know if we can help in anyway, sadly we'll be vacating the hangar at the end of this month as committed. Zimmerman; Robert Harrison;Jim Seitz Subject: RE: Renton Hangar- Last Hope Dear Mr. & Mrs. Huang, Thank you for your letter regarding your hangar occupancy at Renton Airport and the temporary Hold Harmless Agreement you signed which expires on February 28, 2019. I am speaking on behalf of the city staff and City Council when I say that we appreciate that you are an active member of the aviation community at Renton Airport and I empathize with your situation. As you know, you are among many other tenants who are faced with displacement at the end of this month. Though the City had no obligation to your agreements with Kaynan LLC, we felt it best out of courtesy to attempt to assist you by offering the 90-day grace period that you've signed. The City is continuing work toward a formal development plan for the southeast corner space, yet at this time that does not change the fact that upon inspection of the property, the City has determined that the buildings are not suitable for occupancy. You may recall, as part of the lease agreement with the Ellison family, they were required to demolish the hangars at the end of their term because of the condition of the hangars. They failed to comply with this requirement and abandoned the property. We would love to be able to offer the facilities for use, as that type of arrangement is mutually beneficial. However, Kaynan's lack of action did not change the need for the buildings to be vacated and demolished and in their current state it would be irresponsible and infeasible for the City to enter into leasing agreements. The Hold Harmless Agreement in which you signed, alleviates the City from any claims or damages that might occur during the three-month extension. The City, at the advice of legal representation, is not in a position to extend your tenancy beyond February 28, 2019. Thank you for writing. This is a difficult situation and I appreciate your feedback. We have received a number of suggestions for short-term answers to the displacement problem, however, anything that the City decides regarding this parcel will be part of a larger comprehensive plan. The Airport is exploring alternatives to address the aircraft parking issue; most of these ideas and discussions require some level of formal approval from Federal or local agencies. I have noted that you are on our Hangar Wait List. Meanwhile, I encourage you to reach out to the FBOs on the field to see if they have any tied downs available for your aircraft upon termination of the agreement. Sincerely, HARRY BARRETT JR.,C.M. Grady Way Renton, WA 98057 Dear Mayor Law, Council President Prince, and Council Members; At the end of February we are required to vacate Hangar #13 on Renton field. After trying to find tie down space at Renton airport or any other option to store our plane at Renton we have been unsuccessful. We have been active members of the aviation community at Renton airport supporting the local on airport businesses and Sophie is now a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) hoping to stay active with the aviation community on the field. As property owners and tax payers in the town we are very proud of the Renton airport and the capability it provides. No final plan has be agreed upon for the development for the airport and yet we have to vacate the hangar. Since signing the lease with the town, various municipal services from Renton now inhabit some of the hangar space with the South East corner of the airport. In addition our airport is now being used a parking and office space complex for the Police and other services. Clearly the town sees value in these buildings and is sufficiently comfortable to use them for the time being. We ask that you delay termination of our lease or allow us to occupy some of the open space between the hangar's while you work out your plan for the development. We understand that various on airport business have put forward plans to help the town with removal of the old hangars and in return would rent the cleared space for tie down's, please embrace that offer to give the General Aviation (GA) community continued access to the airport. 3 Thank you for considering this request. You are really our last hope to remain part of the aviation community at Renton. In addition, RHAWA appreciates the thoughtful process that Renton staff and City Council have taken in developing this ordinance. Furthermore,we appreciate the City's generosity in waiting to assess fees to the rental registration/business license portion of Ordinance 5913. RHAWA would also like to thank Renton's City staff for making a concerted effort to work with private rental housing providers on the new Registration and Inspection program and looks forward to collaborating on the education and outreach to rental owners after Council passes RMC 4.5.125.
