Whereas, The American Legion has been a staunch advocate for veterans and their families since
1919; and
Whereas, The American Legion was founded on March 15, 1919, based on four pillars: care for
veterans, a strong national defense, Americanism, and children and youth; and
Whereas, The American Legion has played a leading role in initiatives and breakthroughs that
have affected the lives of Americans in every community, from U.S. Flag Code to the GI Bill; and
Whereas, Renton Fred Hancock Post 19 has fulfilled the Legion's mission since its founding on July
13, 1919, through programs such as Evergreen Boys State, Boy Scouts (Troop 498 and Cub Pack
468), Law & Order Awards recognition, youth scholarships, Salvation Army support, ceremonial
Honor Guard, participation in Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, and veterans
assistance; and
Whereas, The American Legion is celebrating its centennial;
Now, therefore, I, Denis Law, Mayor of the City of Renton, do hereby proclaim March 15, 2019, to
be
American Legion Centenniallnay
in the City of Renton, and I encourage all citizens to join me in this special observance.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Renton to be
